Rosefeather took a deep breath. Then, raising her voice above the murmors of the rain drops, she called out, "Would all those who consider their lives intertwined with the fate of SkyClan please gather under HighStump." She changed the words, but her feelings seemed to ripple around the campsite. Today, she would name the new leader and annouce her plans for the Clan.

Shaking each of her paws, Dawnstreak padded from her den. She glanced around for Dreampaw and sighed. That apprentice never seemed to be HERE anymore. She sat down, and gazed at Rosefeather, wondering what this meeting could be about.

Galaxyshadow got up from his nest in the warrior's den at Rosefeather's call. His ears flicked back briefly in surprise. Rosefeather had changed the words. What could that possibly mean? He yawned and shook his head to clear the drowsiness from it. All sleepiness evaporated though as Dawnstreak came into his view. He could see that something was bothering her. "You okay Dawnstreak?" he meowed, his bossy manner fading away whenever he was near the beautiful she cat. He stole a glance up at Rosefeather, but she was still waiting for the rest of the clan, and his gaze dropped back down to Dawnstreak..

Smallkit blinked her ears swivled in the direction of Rosefeather making her gaze turn towards the deputy. Moments before she was staring at the exit of the camp in wonder. Lately now she was thinking less and less of her mother and father because of their absence.
Faithspirit sat close to a corner but paying attention, Too much company. her tail flicked in irritation.

Winterpaw set her herbs down, leaping softly toward the gathering figures. She sat near Smallkit, wrapping her tail around the chilly kitten.
Rosefeather only watched the clouds swirl. She waited for a sign, or for her voice to find courage.

The multi-colored tom Bluecoud slid from the warriors den, shaking moss from his fur as he padded to join the gathering cats. His eyes on Rosefeather.
What was going on? She had hanged the words, was that of some importance?
Kurapelt jerked her head up from her paws, her eyes finding the speaker of the words. Getting to her paws she slowly padded to join the other clan members. But she kept her distance, she had only joined the clan a few days ago, she wasn't sure if many accepted her here. In fact she'd never even meet the leader.
Catching Bluecloud throw a glare her way sent her turning in the other direction. Her fur bristling she stood to the side waiting to see what the she-cat would say.

Sneaking into the camp, Dreampaw was relieved to see that Rosefeather had called a meeting. She, silently, joined the rest of the clan. Dreampaw licked her fur trying to rid her fur of it of Flashpaw's scent.

Echostep padded from her den, ears pricked. The warrior swerved around Bluecloud as though her wasn't even there, and took a seat next to Kurapelt. Turning her back on the obnoxious tom, the tri-colored she-cat gently flicked the ex-rogue's bristling shoulder with her tail before turning toward the deputy.

Dawnstreak turned and nodded to Galaxyshadow, then she noticed her apprentice. Padding quietly over to Dreampaw, Dawnstreak gazed down at her with exasperated amber eyes. "We'll talk later," she sighed.

Galaxyshadow turned as she spoke to her apprentice. Where had Dreampaw been? She shouldn't leave like that... He shrugged. He was sure Dawnstreak and Dreampaw would fix things between them. He turned to look at Rosefeather..

As Rosefeather took a shaky breath, she faced her Clan. "We have gone too long without a proper leader. I would like to tell you I am ready for this position, but I know someone who is better. Dawnstreak, will you join me?"
Winterpaw let out a small gasp as Rosefeather called Dawnstreak. Dawnstar. She let the word float in her mind. It sounded... Right. Maybe I'll take her to the Moonstone.

Dawnstreak's eyes bulged as her name was called. Trembling, she stepped forward, toward Rosefeather. Dawnstar she thought. A swerve of nausea hit her. But she kept her head high. If Rosefeather thought she was the one... She would trust in the cat she had known since she had come to the Clans.

Rosefeather smiled a small, shy grin. "If StarClan accepts, Dawnstreak will be the new leader. Dawnstreak, do you accept?"

Dawnstreak gulped. So fast! Glancing at the stars and sending up a silent prayer. Then she looked behind her and saw both support and shock on the faces of her Clanmates. Glancing all the way around, she looked into Galaxyshadow's eyes and saw what she had never looked for there before... love and trust. That settled it. Jutting out her chin and looking strait at Rosefeather, a cat she would trust with her life, she nodded.

Rosefeather let out the breath she hadn't even known she was holding. "Then the only ones you need to please are the Clan and Stars. Does SkyClan approve of my decision?"
Winterpaw yowled out, "Of course!"

Dawnstreak just stayed silent. This had never been her ambition... she had just wanted her Clan to trust her. And this, the ultimate act of trust, made her tremble. She took deep breaths at each confirmation. Yet she still quivered. Leader...

Rising to her feet, Dawnstreak found she was now steady and strangely calm. Glancing at the sky, she nodded, then gazed with conviction at the Clan she had grown to love. "Cats of SkyClan. I know at times you have found it hard to accept me. But I promise you, no matter what, I will try my absolute hardest to keep those we know and love safe, even if it means sacrificing myself in the process." She raised her head and her amber eyes sparkled with life. "For SkyClan is who we are! And standing here before you, I promise with all my heart, should you accept me as your leader, I will do everything to keep us safe!"

Galaxyshadow purred. He knew Dawnstreak had all the qualities of a leader-he had never doubted her. He smiled up at her, overjoyed that she was finally being recognized for all she had done for her clan. A small shadow of a doubt flitted through his mind- once she was leader, there'd be less time to spend with her. He frowned briefly, and tried to push it away. That didn't bear thinking about. He focused on Dawnstreak's happiness- that's all that mattered to him...
(bleah... I cannot get the right words across >.>)
