Kurapelt sat in the farthest corner of the clearing. She didn't see any one she recognized, that usually wouldn't have bothered her except for today, she was still slightly confused about the battle that had broke out.

The way the cats had gone at each other, they were enemies. But why? When there were so many things out there that are worse. She huddled deeper into her corner, her tail curving over her tail and her ears pinned tight against her head.

Dewfeather paced back and forth from one side of the camp to the other. Her pelt was still bristleing from the border fight she had today as she fought her best friend Wildheart from FireClan. "Why?!?" she suddenly hissed, making the cats around her jump, "What did we ever do to them?"

Kurapelt glanced up at the she-cat that paced back and forth and she slowly stepped forward. Half of her was afraid she would be attacked and the other half wanted to know what was going on to much to care.
Taking a deep breath she took another step forward, "umm...what are you talking about?" she asked the happiness in her voice replaced with worry.

Dewfeather turned, eyes blazing. "The border fight, of course!" Her hackles lowered and her fur flatened. "I'm sorry," she mewed, her eyes lowering, "I did not mean to get so angry."

Kurapelt nodded in understanding, "It's okay....I would be angry to but...I'm more confused.." She explained her eyes growing distant.

"I mean, I don't get it, why were the clans fighting each other? Aren't we supposed to be allies? Not enemy's right?..." Her voice trailed off and she sighed her ears twitching softly.

"IT's good if we have allies, but only to help us in battle. If we were not enemies with the other clans, then bad stuff would happen. Forbidden loves, freindships broken, it's not very pretty. Do you get it?" she asked, her eyes drying from the tears that was falling earlier. "I would love to not fight every second, but we have to to survive. That's how it has always been. Enemies.

"No cat likes it, unless they are evil, trust me. Being allies his like being friends, if you get to close, something WILL happen, I'm sure, and a lot of hearts will be broken. This is a hard time for the forest and we are splitting into three groups instead of five as it has always been. Earth and Sky, Fire and Water, and Lightning is alone. THEY were the smart ones."

Echostep padded toward the two cats, her eyes half-lidded and her steps exhausted. The tri-colored SkyClan warrior looked like death warmed over--first a patrol, then an all-out attack. It could really take it out of a cat.

Wearily, Echostep sank to the ground nearby, halfheartedly licking at several scratches and cuts that still oozed blood. Her copper eyes glanced up, once, as she nodded toward Dewfeather. "I wish we were as lucky."

Dewfeather turned her head to Echostep. "I know. I wish we could go back in time and get out of this mess." She sighed dramatically. "But I think that if we were allies with anyone we made the right choice. EarthClan was the way to go. "

Kurapelt shock her head, she still didn't understand. Why would any one need to fight at all, sighing she glanced away from the two she-cats. She was starting to rethink her decision on living with the clans, but she shook her head furiously. No! She would stay here, if they would have her that is.

She glanced up at Echostep and Dewfeather, her worries gone and in there place shimmering excitement. "So when can I start learning? I can't wait to be a clan cat for real!"

Echostep glanced back at Kurapelt, ears pricking forward. The new she-cat seemed unnerved by all the fighting, but to Echostep it was just another part of life as a warrior. Still, you had to admire her nerve--Kurapelt had had the gall to dash right into camp, suffer through a fight with more strange cats, and then still be willing to learn. Why couldn't apprentices be so dedicated?

"Well, it really depends on what our leader decides." Echostep mused. A thoughtful expression crossed her muzzle, and her copper eyes gleamed in the late afternoon light. "But I guess I could show you some basics, if you'd like. You'll need them if this whole Clan alliances thing comes to pass."

Kurapelt leaped up excitedly, her tail wagging like that of a dogs, "yeah yeah, you gotta show me!" then she paused grinning and tried to look confident. "But I know I'm gonna be pretty good, I've lived on my own for a little while now" she meowed bravely.

Echostep purred to herself, amused. Well, Kurapelt was certainly determined. "Alright then." Taking a moment to rise and gingerly give her wounds a once-over, the SkyClan warrior padded a few steps away and motioned for the former rogue. "Lemme see your best defensive stance."

Kurapelt followed Echostep more slowly stopping when she stopped. She couldn't wait to learn, to get better. She really couldn't wait however to become a clan member!

She tensed her limbs at Echostep's command. Bracing her legs firmly on the ground, crouching down ever so slightly. "Is that good? Am I doing it right?"

Dewfeather laughed; she couldn't help but interfere. "In a real battle, you would've lost already. No cat will tell you to brace yourself and you can't be that slow. Plus, don't forget the sheathe your claws in a real one."

She knew she was being kind of a know it all, but how could she not? She was a fighting freak!

[Glyph]

Echostep chuckled along with Dewfeather, nodding slightly. "True, true, but she's just beginning." Thoughtfully, the brown, blond, and white she-cat surveyed Kurapelt's stance, her copper eyes twinkling.

"Don't lock your legs so tight." Echostep tapped the former-rogue's leg slightly as she offered her advice. "When you're in a fight, you want to keep a little spring in your movement, so you can be prepared to move or block in any direction."

Nodding determinedly Kurapelt loosened her legs, then looked up at them, "is this right?"

"Whatever you feel is comfortable," she replied.

Echostep nodded, smiling softly. "Good, much better. Now..." The she-cat paused, motioning with her tail. "Show me an offensive pose."

Kurapelt grinned sliding slowly into a crouch as if to attack Echostep and Dewfeather, "how's this?" she asked excitement leaking from her voice.

"Pretty bad, I mean really really bad."

Kurapelt straightened her fur prickling in embarrassment as she turned her head to find the owner of the voice. A tom of beautiful coloring padding slowly toward her. The fur along her spine and tail rose, her body tensed, her lips twitched with the urge to pull back and hiss at the tom. A tickle of fear crawled threw her. Her reaction was stupid, but she couldn't stop it, her eyes turned hard, cold. "Lets see you do better fool!" she snarled viciously, her tail lashed but she took a step back.

Bluecloud rose a brow at the former rouge, he had heard from his father, Graysky that he had meet the rouge. That she wanted to join the clan, Bluecloud had snorted inwardly, like she had a chance. He observed her know, and his lip pulled twisted in a sneer. "I can do better then that and I'm a new warrior!"

He turned his gaze to Echostep and Dewfeather nodding his head respectfully to the older warriors, "Echostep, Dewfeather."

Echostep narrowed her eyes, tearing them away from Kurapelt to frown at this new, arrogant voice. Graysky's son or not, Bluecloud had always tended to be like a bad case of fleas: annoying and always present.

"New warrior or not," the tri-colored she-cat replied smoothly, "you still act like an apprentice, Bluecloud. I wouldn't expect Kurapelt to know everything all at once--she wasn't born a Clan cat like you."

Turning back to the former rogue, Echostep nodded and nodded her approval. "Ignore Bluecloud, you've got the basics down well enough."
