Hunting Patrol

The Hunting Patrol made it's way up to the lake of stars, their mouths hanging open as the tried to catch any scent of prey. Nearby, Dewfeather spotted a mouse and positioned her body into the Hunter's Crouch. Gathering all her muscels in her hind legs, she pounced and landed on the mouse with a thud. She swiftly killed it with one bite to the neck. ;D

Nearby, Moonpelt was watching her with curiosity. Seeing that Dewfeather had caught her prey, she purred. "Great catch there. My turn now." Opening her mouth to scent for prey, a vole captured her senses. Crouching low, she ventured her way to it. Slowly, step by step, and she was a tail length away. Holding her breath, she pounced on it, and clawed it with a swift. Feeling satisfied with the hunt, she grabbed the dead prey with her mouth and walked towards Dewfeather. "How was that?" she asked, with slight amusement.

"Great!" Dewfeather purred. "Let's bury our catch over there near that tree so we can pick it up later." She padded over to the spot and dug her paws in the dirt. 'I'm starting to get hungry..."

" So am I, but the clan must be fed first! And well done Dewfeather, see how you can hunt well too." Pantherclaw meowed breathing in the scent to see if any prey were still around. She spotted a squirrel scurrying under a tree. She crouched and just as the squirrel scampered up the tree out of range for most cats to jump, Pantherclaw gave a flying leap to pin it down. Her muscles rippled under her black pelt. She killed it with one swift bite and jumped down from the tree trunk where she had clung. Pantherclaw padded up to her sister and scraped earth over her catch. She meowed to Dewfeather "That was fun! Where to now?" And gave her gray paw a swift lick.

OOC: Pantherclaw is a great hunter but she really cant get fighting moves down. when she and her sister were rogues, she would get them food and Dewfeather would defend them. this was the way most of the time with one helping the other. so if Pantherclaw seems too good at hunting, thats why.=^..^=

"I'm getting better at it..." mewed Dewfeather hapily. "Let us hunt some more and get back to the clan." She stepped silently over twigs and roots and smelled something other than prey. "Do you smell that?"

There was only one explanation for that strange smell.

Fox!

OOC: ooh, a fox! =^..^=

" i smell it alright and-" but Pantherclaw stopped when she saw the rusty color of a fox as it emerged from the bushes several fox-lengths away from the small patrol. " oh no, it must have smelled our fresh-kill, thats really not good, that means its hungry" Then she remembered. Dewfeather was an expert at getting rid of foxes! she chased away at least five foxes as a rogue..... Pantherclaw did not do well in battles, she really wished she could just turn tail and run. But she wouldnt leave her clanmates behind. " D-D-Dewfeather I-I think that the fox is hungry and really dangerous, wouldnt it be safer to run? we can catch more prey..." Pantherclaw was usually brave but.... she hated foxes.

OOC: get it? the Fox was fox-lengths away? ah my humor is not so good. Explain: shes panicking cause shes deathly afraid of foxes. She still thinks like a rogue sometimes, not thinking that the fox might settle or hurt another cat.

But Dewfeather already positioned herself into a fighting stance and was growling. "Arrgh!" she cried as she leaped on top of the fox and bit hard on his neck. The fox ripped her from his body and smashed her to the ground, taking all breath away from her. The fox scratched her face and she felt and smelled the rusty color of blood dripping into her eyes. With all the strength she could muster, she pushed the fox away making it scratch against the hard rocks underneath. She lashed out blindly with her double paws scratching it across the face. The fox barked with anger and bit her neck making her bleed like crazy. No! She would not give up yet! She staggered until she caught her balance, and, almost at the speed of light she boxed the fox with her hind legs in the face, whipped around and scratched her claws down the fox's eye. The fox (wimp) yowled in pain and scampered away.
Dewfeather wasn't that great either. She was bleeding so fiercly, that she felt her life rush out of her. Something in the back of her head said she was going to live, but starclan didn't seem to bad right now...
"No!" she growled so quietly that only she could hear. "Take me back to the camp," she croaked weakly.
OOC: oh yeah!!! nobody messes with Dewfeather!!!

OOC: Can Thawpelt help her out? If you don't want him around, just ignore this post and I'll delete it later...


IC: Thawpelt came tearing threw the same bushes the fox had come from just in time to watch it run away like a scared kit. Quickly, the tang of blood came to his nose, and his head turned to the two she-cats. His dark blue eyes took in the scene before him, before the oddly colored Skyclan tom padded up to them. "Everything all right?" Thawpelt asked, before gasping at Dewfeather's injuries. He had been chasing the fox this way, and felt guilty that she was hurt from it. "I'm so sorry, Dewfeather! That fox coming this way was my fault. Please, let me help take you back..." the oddly colored tom offerend, his eyes lowering with shame.

"It's allright, Thawpelt. You are forgiven. You were only trying to help and you were doing the right thing. Besides, I needed the practice. Now take me back," she murmured, comfortingly. She tried to sit up and slip again, then leaned on her sister's shoulder.

OOC: Yeah! Thanks for joining in!

Pantherclaw felt a twinge of guilt at her sisters injuries. if only she had been brave enough to help out. "come on Dewfeather, we'll get you back to camp and the medicine cat can patch you right up" she moewed. helping her sister walk with Thawpelt on the other side. " Moonpelt, could you grab the fresh kill? We dont want more foxes to come or even badgers" she shuddered at the thought of there being any of those beasts around here. " its ok, Dewfeather, you will be alright, that fox didnt do much damage." i hope. she thought to herself.

Dewfeather tried to think positivley, but black clouds filled her mind of what kind of beasts were out there. She limped heavily on her sisters shoulder as she they brought her to the camp.

ICC: Nodding her head in agreement, Moonpelt burried her prey in the ground, making marks to distinguish her bury from the others. The fox barging in and the fight of it with Dewfeather went too quickly. She was about to lunge herself in with the fight but it was too late. Dewfeather was already injured and the fox was starting to retreat. "Sure" she replied to Pantherclaw. "I'll do that." Leaving the three cats, she went back to her burried prey that was done a couple of heartbeats ago and unburried them. Catching both the vole and mouse, she quickly caught up to the group and head back to camp.
