Smokepaw stood ridgedly in the Dark Marshes, where Waterclan was bordered with the rogue territories. It seems like a simple step across the scent lines meant utter darkness, and death. A cool wind that blew from the Tribe lands sent a chill through him, and he flexed his claws, digging them into the soft, wet earth. It smelled like crowfood and decay on the other side.
It had been moons since the secret meeting at the giant oak, yet he heard nothing from the rogues. he wondered if something happened, and if everything went wrong. his apprentice training has been prosponed due to his busy mentor, Honeydew, who seemed to be nowhere in sight now days. and gazes always went to him and Pondpaw as newer apprentices became full-fledged warriors, but they were still kept in the apprentice dens, doing apprentice jobs.
Sometimes his blue eyes would darken when new apprentices laugh at him for still being in the same den as them, and feel like he would lose control; like he would take over their soul. but he always restrained himself from even being close to do something like that on his own clanmates. It sure wasn't easy. Sometimes he even had to run out of camp at full speed, and cool himself off under the cleansing waterfall.
Days like today, it wouldn't help.
The blue of his eyes are almost pitch black right now, and he felt his fur standing on end. He wanted to lose this feeling... but he couldn't.
Then, a slight bit of light came back into him, when he thought of the one cat who was always beside him when he needed her...
I wish you were here.

OOC: Oh my...I never even saw this thread! *slaps wrist* shame on me! >_<"
IC: Pondpaw padded blindly threw the forest. Dried tears clumped her cheek fur, and the silver-blue she-cat's nose ran from her latest cry. It...it isn't...fare.... the Waterclan apprentice mewed in her mind, pausing to try and wipe fresh tears on a fluffy leaf. The newest apprentices always picked on her the worst when Smokepaw wasn't around. Their teasing didn't only circle around her not being a warrior yet, but also that she normally followed Smokepaw around like a lost kit, which, was only because she often had nothing better to do. It seemed instantly after the tom had ran off to cool down, they turned their eyes on her. ..."Why aren't you in the elder's den yet?"..."Do you really suck that much to where you can't be a warrior?"..."Tell us a story like all the other elders do!"... the hurtful comments rang in the Waterclan apprentice's mind as though they were being said to her once more. "It isn't fair! I want to be a warrior!" Pondpaw yowled to the sky, feeling fresh tears run threw her fur.
Pondpaw lowered her head, and folded her ears against her head. Her emerald eyes became blurry with the new tears that now flowed stronger then ever. Desperately, the silver-blue she-cat let her power unfold and blind her. It searched every bush and pebble before resting on a dark shape in the wet marshes. Pondpaw blinked a few times to end the vision, and raced off into the undergrowth. She crashed threw the bushes clumsily, and whimpered when thorns tugged at her fur and scratched her ears. The marshes hadn't been far from her position. In fact, the Waterclan apprentice almost crashed into the dark shape from her vision.
Skidding to a halt behind Smokepaw, Pondpaw gave a small sniffle and one last attempt to wipe away tears with a paw. The added glaze on her emerald eyes made them shine a bit extra in the light. "I thought you would be here..." Pondpaw purred with a half-hearted smile.
OOC: *looks at post*....oh my....this post took me forever to do! ^^"

OOC: SUCH A GREAT POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D *gives reputation* it's so good that i dont even know how to reply to it! D= i wont wanna break the awesomeness in this thread... LOL i love ur post so much! =P
oh and btw, Smokepaw's power is to just control other cats' souls/actions without leaving mhis own body, right? xP i m so confused! took me like 10 mins just to discuss this with ilovewarriors. @_@ oh and ALSO, i think it'll be cool that if Smokepaw loses control of his power, Pondpaw's CLOSE presence can sooth him and calm him down. =3 What do u think??
IC: Smokepaw's mind was totally unfocused, so that he didn't scent Pondpaw arrive until she almost bumped into him. The surprise caused his pupils to narrow and his fur to fluff up, his claws unsheathing by instinct. then he recognized the silver-blue she-cat, and he returned to his normal self. "Wow it's a wonder how i can be tracked now even after hiding my scent." he quickly turned to lick his fur flat, to hide any evidence that he was caught off guard. For some reason, he felt all the tension in his body sooth, just having Pondpaw there. All the stress seemed to leave his mind. His darkened eyes returned to its normal blue. He felt the purity of her soul so close to him. But along with it came an emotion pulsing through her that made him turn to look at her, stopping in mid-lick.
"What's wrong?" he asked, frowning. he wasn't used to seeing Pondpaw like this, her beautiful clear eyes glazed with tears.

OOC: Thanks! ^^ Oh, and sure! I think he "leaves" his body when he takes possesion of another. Can't recal Rosefeather specifing this or not, so I guess you can do whatever you want. =D
IC: "You could say I cheated...." Pondpaw purred, feeling a slight blush come on. Smokepaw had hid his scent? I must thank Whitemoon even more for this power then! the Waterclan she-cat thought to herself.
Pondpaw froze when Smokepaw turned to her, asking the question her heart begged for, but her mind begged agenst. The apprentice felt new hot tears push at the back of her mind as the memories flooded back. Burning eyes of the other apprentices came back as though they were watching her from the bushes. That was it! Pondpaw couldn't take it anymore! Her smile vanished instantly and the tears came back harder then ever. "Those Demonclan apprentices again! They always tease me when you leave! I can't help the fact that I'm not a warrior yet, and that I like to be around you when there is nothing else to do!" Pondpaw paused to take in a few gasping breaths thew tears, and continued, "I don't get it, Smokepaw. Have we not done enough to become warriors?" The silver-blue she-cat sheilded her emerald gaze from the world, and hung her head to alow the tears to be taken away by gravity. Maybe if I'm lucky...I can cry a big lake that will wash all the other apprentices away. Then Froststar will have to make us warriors! Pondpaw almost laughed at how stupid her thoughts were.

Smokepaw stood frozen for a moment, feeling Pondpaw's hurt as she told him what was wrong in a sudden burst of words and anger. He'd never seen her this upset before, not in any of the times that he'd seen her cry. He felt a pinch in his chest when she mentioned why they still weren't made warriors yet. He had a feeling he knew why, and the reason must be the same for Acornpaw too, the other apprentice who recieved a gift and was destined to go to the tribe with them. It had to be related.
"Those apprentices are crowfood." he growled under his breath, an urge to protect Pondpaw suddenly filling his body and mind with rage. His eyes slightly darkened again, as part of his mind reached out for those apprentices' souls, almost like instinct. but he couldn't control his power yet; it would definetly hurt somebody if he did use his powers.
Smokepaw quickly shook away the feeling, clearing his head again. "We've definetly done enough. We deserve to be warriors." the dark gray tom said clearly, his eyes back on Pondpaw. Over the many moons that they've trained, the two are now fully grown, 100% fit to become warriors. if other cats didn't know better, they would have found them to be strong warriors already.
"You know what?" he smiled a little. rarely would he try to cheer anyone up, but Pondpaw was an exception. "Let's make ourselves warriors right now." A mischeivous glint shone from his clear dark-blue eyes. "What do you say? We'll name our own clan, even." he joked, his face close to Pondpaw's as he searched her face to see if she was still crying.

Pondpaw alowed her eyes to see the world once more as Smokepaw spoke. She gave a small giggle despite herself, and cracked a small smile. "Should we call it Smokeclan oh wise leader?" the silver-blue she-cat joked back, her emerald eyes flashing with a bit of amusement.
As Pondpaw -unknowningly to herself- gazed into Smokepaw's eyes, she could almost see the power that he had been given. Does it eat you up inside? Is that why you run away? she questioned silently in her mind. The she-cat's smile faded slightly as the power within his dark blue eyes seemed to pulse in response to this question. Its pulses seemed try and reach deep within her. Clawed fingers ripping at her being, digging around in search of something. It was trying to do something weather Smokepaw knew it or not. A sudden jult of surprise washed over Pondpaw as her thoughts brought up something she never wanted to hear. What if he was making it do this? The wave of panic seemed to make the cold claws of the odd power flinch away, but it had found what it wanted. Slowly but surely, Pondpaw helplessly felt it tearing away at her, and reaching a frozen finger out to grasp at her soul...
The sudden screach of a crow broke Pondpaw away from it just in time.
With a gasp, Pondpaw stumbled back from Smokepaw. Lost for words, she could only look at him with large, shocked emerald eyes. Their gaze seemed pleeding, asking the same question over and over. Why? The Waterclan apprentice didn't know what to do. She had never had this proublem while around him before, so why now? The claws of his power seemed to leave raw scratches inside her just to make it harder to forget and forgive him and dismiss this as a simple accident. Pondpaw was too shocked to cry, move, nor even make a small wimper. She was stuck staring at him in shock. Her tail and fur fluffed up in alarm.OOC: I tried to imagine what it must feel like when his power tries to reach out for other souls without him wishing for it to....(or wishing it too? ) lol!

Smokepaw frowned, worried. "What's wrong?" he asked as Pondpaw looked surprised, afraid of him even. "Did I say something wrong?" He didn't know that his powers did not lie dormant even when he felt "normal", or as normal as he ever could be since that night. his worried look was very naive, as he was totally confused and simply wondering what was wrong. but little did he know the whole experience Pondpaw felt at that moment. he took half a step closer to see if she was ok.

OOC: Sorry... >_<"
IC: Pondpaw flinched as Smokepaw took a step closer. She could almost see his power reaching out once more for another go. "Do...do you make it do that?" the silver-blue she-cat asked shakely, afraid of the answer to come. If it was yes, did that mean Smokepaw was making his power reach out for her soul? Pondpaw had hoped this would never happen. So why was it?

Smokepaw was confused for a moment, his dark blue eyes more confused. "What do you..." then he knew. he knew why Pondpaw looked so afraid, trying to stay away from him. he knew it was because of him. but, this was something he couldn't help... it wasn't his fault, yet even now the only cat he trusted was afraid of him and this dark power of his.
The dark grey tom narrowed his eyes in hurt; how could Pondpaw think that he was trying to control her? That pain was deeper than he'd ever felt, a thousand times worse than being bitten by an adder snake. "No, it isn't me... " he muttered, looking away. "No..." he took a couple steps back, shaking his head. he didn't have a family, and now he couldn't even be around other cats. how could he live like this? the one cat he truly cared about couldn't take him anymore. She wasn't safe around him, and he didn't want to put her in any danger, especially not from himself.
"No!" he suddenly hissed, throwing all his frustrations and anger out. he turned and dashed through the tall, wet grass and disappeared, his voice almost echoing across the marshes. all the weight of his life pulled down on him. but before, he was able to take it on himself and keep going, since he met Pondpaw for the first time. now... he was alone on this, and it was so heavy that he felt like he couldn't breathe... like he couldn't live any longer in this dark empty world.
