Hawkflame sat in the center of camp, his tail wrapped around his paws, his black chest puffed out proudly. he forced his pale blue eyes to sweep calmly over the camp, his eyes peeled for a certain small apprentice...
his eyes narrowed a moment. perhaps that Rouge he had... he asked had lied. the black scrap of fur couldn't have made it this far anyway, right?
still, he kept his eyes open. they rested on a sleeping dark tabby, bulky for his size, but still young. somewhat like he was at that age, except his tabby pelt was lighter, and cut through with black stripes, like a tigers'.

Coldpaw emerged from his den. he streched out his forelegs, arching his back, tail curving forward in a C. he yawned lazily as his white chest touched the ground. standing in the soft sunlight he blinked the sleep from his eyes. he quickly looked around for one or both of his new friends Brokenpaw and Redwing. the black tom spotted the dark tabby and called his name when he felt his blood run cold. his glance darted around the camp before a familiar pelt caught his eye. light brown with with black stripes and chest. panic bloomed in Coldpaw's chest with ice cold claws as he saw equaly cold blue eyes.

Brokenpaw raised his head at Coldpaw's call, blinking sleep from his emrald eyes. he offered his friend a smile, but it vanished as he saw the small apprentice stiffen in fear, his eyes locked on a cat that sat in the center of camp. Brokenpaw's eyes narrowed. who was this cat that brought so much fear to Coldpaw? granted, Coldpaw had been afraid of him, too, at first. perhaps it was just another tabby that brought back bad memories.
curious, he stayed put, keeping his eyes on the mysterious stranger.
Hawkflame heard a farmiliar voice calling to another cat. with a smile, he turned, fixing his now cold eyes on his little brother. one of the scrap's eyes was pale, clouded over with blindness. his smile grew the teensiest bit wider. he hadn't expected his swipe so long ago to be that effective.
he padded at a leisurely pace over to his brother, filling himself with an air of nonchalance. "Do my eyes decieve me? Cold, my little brother. it's been moons!" he said. his words could have been considered kind, but his voice was layered. warm on top, just barely covering the sadisticness and cruel meaning below.

"Hawk" mewd in a voice more like a whimper. a blinding panic was clawing at his chest, screaming for him to turn and run far, far away from Hawk. to escape somewhere. Coldpaw dug his claws into the ground to keep from fleeing.
"ya, moons". moons since he was abandon and betrayed, moons since he became a play thing for rouges, moons since he had discovered his life was a lie, just some plot. part of him longed to nuzzle against Hawk a pretend none of it ever happend, but now he could here the fake niceness in his voice and the malice underneth it.
Coldpaw realized he was shaking and that his fur was fluffing. he tried to stay calm but he doubted it would last.

Darksky turned her deep blue gaze up at the sky. She glanced down at the scene that unfolded before her. Her apprentice, Coldpaw seemed terribly shaken at the sight of the cat Darksky knew to be Hawkflame. She'd heard her apprentice mumbling of terrible things, things like something named Hawk. It connects... Darksky thought with dismay. If this Hawkflame was the same Hawk that struck such fear into her apprentice, Darksky didn't know if she could trust Coldpaw to do the right thing any way. He might just use his power of medicine cat to his advantage. No he won't, Coldpaw is a good cat, I know that and Starclan know that, he would never do such a terrible thing.
Darksky cursed herself for even thinking such terrible things about the young cat she was guiding to become medicine cat. She was never the suspicious type, but after the arousal of Foxcloud every cat had some form of evil inside them. It's just how that devil comes out that should worry me, she thought. Darksky did her best to trust all cats, but only a few seemed to display their personal devil with honor and class. One was Firemist, her devil was her hatred of Foxcloud. The ginger warrior, however, never openly attacked the deputy, but she did show her distaste of her actions. Once, at least the wounded told it this way, she stood up for the leader of Earthclan against Foxcloud. That show courage, and I believe that courage is just fear that has said it's prayer.
The other cat was Burning. Darksky's heart did a little jump. She should not even have thought about the pale ginger tom, or his blue eyes. His devil seemed to be his fierce pride, he was ready to defend his siblings, although good, but in a way that could be considered hostile. He had been about to rip Darksky's own pelt off... But then thought better of himself, and showed that his personal angel was stronger then his devil. Darksky wondered which, her angel or her devil, stood out more. She hoped that it was her angel, but one could never know. She would be biased of herself.
Snapping back to reality, Darksky turned her attention back to her apprentice. Poor Coldpaw was shaking and his fur fluffed out like her was facing an opponent. I must help him, if his angel is going to beat his devil this isn't going to be the time, he is much to scared, Darksky thought with determination. She stood and walked directly toward him. Her long black limbs crossed the clearing quickly and she rested her tail on his shoulder. "I think today would be a good day for gathering herbs, don't you think?" Darksky asked, glancing a quick blue stare in Hawkflame's direction. Of course, if she left the camp there was always the chance of seeing Burning... "Come, let us get some marigold and juniper, we are low." She looked at Coldpaw with a stern look that just dared him to argue, but Coldpaw was a good cat and would listen to his mentor. At least she hoped this new confrontation wouldn't hinder his behavior too much.

Hawkflame parted his jaws, thinking up another smooth comment when the Medicine cat, (Darksky, was it?) padded up. he resisted hissing his irritation, and relaxed his features, letting warmth flood his eyes. he now looked the same as any kind, caring cat.
he opened his eyes wide, as innocently as possible. "aw, must you go so soon? i have just been reunited with my brother!" he turned his false warmth to Coldpaw. "So sorry i startled you, by the way. i should've known you'd be... surprised to see me after all this time..." he smiled sweetly, nearly gagging on the forced words. he had nearly forgotten how sickening this facade truely was. but he kept it, not daring abandon it in-front of another clan mate.
he thought a quick moment, remembering what Darksky had said about gathering herbs. ah, Coldpaw must be a medicine cat apprentice now. "Learning to be a medicine cat, are we? how wonderful that you can still be a useful part of the clan even with..." he eyed the scar that ran across the scrap's eye, making his meaning clear.
Brokenpaw heard the name 'Hawk,' and immediately was on his paws. he had heard Coldpaw talking about his brother before, and knew that the new cat was him.
he padded over, just after Darksky arrived, and just in time to cut off Hawk's sentence.
"Hey, guys. Darksky, Coldpaw, you going out to get herbs soon? why don't i come with, to help gather and carry them?" he cut off Hawk, sending him a warning glance. he didn't trust this cat. he was too... something. warm and kind on the outside, but he sensed something beneath, something cold, oh, so cold. and cruel too.
(ugh, being an evil cat+tired=blah for post. sorry if it's bad)

when Darksky and Brokenpaw arrived he felt a rush of relief, and he knew his gratituide was showing in his features.
"good idea" he looked and sounded calmer now, though he was still very scared. Coldpaw tried to remember if they needed marigold or juniper. he was pretty sure they didn't, but it got him away from Hawk so he wasn't arguing.
"sorry hawk I have to go, but maybe i'll see you around." Coldpaw said trying to appear brotherly, hoping no one saw the 'i hope to starclan i don't' look on his face. any cat who couldn't see thru Hawk's mask would think him crazy for being fearful of the cat. Hawk had handed him an excuse and he was gonna use it.
he didn't want to watch people pick sides and pick hawk instead as he was sure they would. People pick sides if theres a rift between two. Hawk was stronger, smarter, and faster. Hawk was just more useful.

Hawkfrost almost scowled in dissapointment, but then his mind came up with a plan. hopefully, it would work out wonderfuly.
"oh, just remembered. i was going to go out hunting. the clan does need prey." he said coyly. "We can't survive off of marigold and poppy seeds."
with that, he walked casually toward the camp entrance, throwing a winning smile back at the group before dissapearing into the undergrowth.
(OOC: don't worry, he's not gone... yet.)
Brokenpaw restrained a hiss at Hawkflame. he didn't like this cat. at all. he saw through the cat's attempts to get him to pick sides, particularly his side. but Brokenpaw remembered what Cold had said about Hawk. sparing a glance at the half-blind apprentice, his mind saw Night. he saw, somehow, a chance at redemtion. here was a cat who had been hurt by who he trusted. it was all he could do to stand up for him. stand up for his friend.
"Should we get going, then?" he asked, wanting to rid his mind of Hawkflame. he just gave Brokenpaw the creeps.

Darksky had to be the better cat. She had to keep her head. Sure she didn't trust Hawkflame, not after her apprentices reaction to him, but she was his medicine cat. She would have to treat him if he required it. "We'll see how he survives off marigold and poppy seeds when he gets a thorn in his paw and it gets infected," she muttered under her breath too quietly for the two apprentices to hear. Darksky turned her thoughtful blue gaze over Brokenpaw. "Yes, we shall be off," she meowed, loudly this time. "Come to my den so I can show you the leaves that we are searching for." Darksky was speaking to Brokenpaw of course, she expected Coldpaw to be able to tell marigold from horsetail at this point. I'll have him identify the first batch when we find some, she resolved.
Darksky led the green-eyed tom towards her den, entered, and returned to the clearing within a few moments. She showed him the green leaf and allowed him to scent it. "This is marigold," she explained. Darksky didn't expect the warrior apprentice to remember marigold, but since he was helping, he might as well learn something. "We are trying to find some more, are you ready to search?"

as Hawk left the tension in his muscles eased.
Coldpaw looked afronted at Darksky's word befor rationality told him she was talking to Brokenpaw. his whiskers twitched in embarassment.
Hawk's words were getting to him. he didn't feel very useful, like he was helping the clan survive. he hadn't chosen the path of a medicine cat out of want to do so, but he knew being a warrior wasn't an oppsion he had. he was very small, half blind, and had a short attention span. being easily distracted by the pain of others and an erge to ease that pain, some part of him said it was compassion for others, but he decided it was simply stupidity.
a thought flashed through his mind 'why can't someone be hurt?' His eyes widend and he shook his fur shaking away the thought with horror. not only was that thought incredibly horrible it sounded far to much like something hawk would say, hurting others so you feel better.
his face was painted with distress, Coldpaw shoved all thoughts but herbs from his mind, letting a calm slide over his consiousness.(only regard this part if we're still looking for juniper) he bounded over to the den grabbing a berry he brought it to the other two. "this is juniper" he claimed with confidence, before turning to Darksky and asking with slight hesitation "right?".

Brokenpaw followed Darksky, but not before a re-assuring glance at Coldpaw. when Darksky started for the medicine cat den, he quickly ducked his head next to the little apprentice's ear.
"Ignore him. he's half the cat you are." he said quietly, then running to catch up with Darksky.
he memorized the shape, size and color of the leaf, and smelled it, trying to hold the smell in his mind. "Ok, i'm ready," he nodded to her, then looked over to Coldpaw, looking at the small berry, memorizing it as well.

Darksky said a silent prayer to Starclan that Brokenpaw was a quick study. She didn't want to have to be the negative Nancy that told him that he'd found yarrow not marigold. She glanced over at her apprentice. The small black cat had retrieved a juniper berry to show to Brokenpaw as well. He seemed unsure that it was juniper; however, he was correct. "Yes, that is juniper," Darksky meowed. She tried to mimic the tone that Spottednose had used when the two were having a training secession. The Earthclan medicine cat always had a delicate sense of knowledge that she spoke about in a calm manner. Darksky had been trying to recreate it since she was a paw. And I've come pretty close, too, she thought proudly. "Trust your instincts, Coldpaw, you are a quick learner and you know the herbs, have a little more confidence next time." She meant it. Darksky couldn't have asked for a better apprentice, unless it was the greatest medicine cat in all of Starclan reborn in a Fireclan kit, which would never happen, so Darksky didn't bother to hope.
"Brokenpaw, I would like you to really focus on the marigold, and Coldpaw I'd like you to gather the juniper," Darksky meowed. She was splitting up the task, mostly it was so Brokenpaw didn't mistake marigold for horsetail, or juniper for deathberries. Safety first, so she gave him the leaves task. "I'm going to search for some cobwebs, so if you have an questions feel free to ask Coldpaw." And with that she padded out of the camp. She waited outside for the apprentices to catch up before turning to her apprentice.
"Where is the best place to find marigold?" Darksky asked Coldpaw. She was, of course, going to give him a little training today. Maybe after we find these herbs, Brokenpaw wouldn't object to a little sparing with Coldpaw. I would, but with the threat of battle looming, I've been far to busy to train him properly... Darksky thought and felt a little ashamed. She was supposed to train Coldpaw to hunt and fight as well, but the two had been stocking up on herbs and berries for the up-coming battle Foxcloud was bound to start.

His white chest fur fluffed up alitttle with pride when Darksky verified that it was juniper. 'i got it right!' he thought cheerfully. he like how Darksky praised and critisized calmly. Coldpaw could still remember how learning hing s had been wih his mother she had crisized in an annoed manner and alwas sounded relived when he got something right. Coldpaw hoped to beable to stay so calm with his apprentice.
He padded after Darksky happily she thought he was a quick learner and that he was trust worthy enough to help Brokenpaw with any questions. today hadn't started very well, but it seemed to be turning out better.
'marygold' the young tom pondered. he tilted his head to the side, a habit of his. "the lake of fire? there was a lot of herds around there when i looked" Coldpaw mewed thoughtfully.

Lavapaw let out an exaggerated groan. "Oh how it pains me!" She limped into camp, wincing with every step. Her brother trailed behind her, giving his golden eyes a roll at her words. "Perhaps, sister, if you hadn't been trying to climb that blasted tree you wouldn't have gotten a thorn up your pad." The pale red tabby shot Magmapaw a glare. "For your information, brother, I had no idea that the so-called 'blasted tree' possessed thorns on it's 'blasted' trunk." It was the tom's turn to glare, but he stopped himself- it was he who was responsible for cooling these fights, after all. "Look. We'll get you to Darksky and get this over with, alright?" Lavapaw responded with a grunt, and stepped out of the snow into the Medicine Cat's den with a sigh of relief, making sure to limp as she neared the others. Her brother looked on, silently praying that she wouldn't interrupt what seemed to be a teaching session. No, that was apparently too much to ask for. "Can someone take a look at my paw?" Her mew was on the verge of a whine.

Hawkflame narrowed his eyes. what was taking the scrap so long? his muscles were getting sore from crouching for so long. he rolled his shoulders, then cracked his neck, letting loose a purr of relief.
settling down again, he waited for the scrap. hopefully, the others wouldn't be too close to him...
Brokenpaw looked over at the two apprentices, trying to resist an amused smile. his humor faded as he realized that the cat's injury might mean cancelling the herb-searching trip.
"If you want to check her paw, Darksky," he started, "I could go with Coldpaw. I'm sure he knows the Herbs well enough to direct me in getting the right things." The large apprentice winked at Coldpaw.

Coldpaw had taken a half-step forward to help the she-cat, he could feel a nudging in his mind to ease her pain. it was the pull to help that he always felt when a cat got hurt. but suddenly he didn't want her to see his scarred and blinded eye.
he turned slighty to the side hiding it from view. he prayed that Darksky would give them permission to leave already. the she-cat reminded him of a little she-kit he had known in his younger years, they had the same eyes.
the kits name had been Holly, and her front paw had been mangled by a twoleg monster. already scared of her wounded leg his scar had scared her more and she wouldn't let him help her.
as he thought back on Holly, he neruosly shifted his paws hoping to be dismissed.

Lavapaw lifted her head to glance curiously at the Medicine Cat Apprentice. Why was he turned away? It wasn't like she hadn't seen him before- they had never really interacted, but it wasn't like they were strangers. She had no problem whatsoever with his eye. The pale red tabby flinched as she felt Magmapaw's hard gaze, wondering what she was doing wrong. Her brother averted his gaze after a few heartbeats, seeing that his message would fail to go through. He had hoped to convey to her that if she dared to be rude to the Medicine Cats she would be in for one of his lectures, but for now all he could do was watch.
The thorn that troubled the she-cat was a thin but long one, embedded considerably deep into her pad from the climb. She proceeded to give it a tentative lick, as her brother looked on with pursed lips. He could tell that Brokenpaw and Coldpaw had been looking forward to something- at least, that would explain the expressions on their maws.

Darksky thought for a moment. Should she have Coldpaw treat the thorn, or should she allow him to find herbs? Either way it was going to be a "solo" task for him. "Go ahead, bring back as much as you can," she meowed gently. Oh, Starclan, don't allow anything to happen, Darksky prayed. She couldn't shake a feeling that she was doing something wrong. "Now after I treat your paw, your going to have to stay in the den for day or two. Normally I would say you'd be fit for training, but with my experience apprentice have a hard time staying off their paws for the remainder of the day..." Darksky meowed.
Blue eyes turned toward the other cat. "Now, go on, help the other two, unless you have something else to do." She meant that. The clan needed prey or herbs, and some cat had to do it. "Let's see about that thorn," she meowed and guided Lavapaw over by the Medicine Den. Darksky delicately balanced the wounded paw on her own and gave the paw a tentative lick. The wound was pulsing heat, but Darksky doubted the need for herbs on this wound. She was getting to it quick enough. The black cat gingerly placed the thorn between her teeth and pulled. The shank-like thorn pulled out slowly, and it was a long one.
Spitting the thorn on the ground, Darksky smiled at the she-cat. "Lick that well," she instructed. Darksky, for precautionary measures, slipped into her den. Her black pelt disappeared with the cavern and she extracted the final marigold leaf. Thank Starclan, Coldpaw is going to retrieve more, she thought and chewed the leaf. Returning to the light, Darksky spread the goo that she chewed on Lavapaw's paw. She pushed the apprentice a poppy seed. "Not enough to sleep, but enough to calm you so you don't get restless."

When she dismissed them Coldpaw turned to Brokenpaw with an excited grin. He was going herbs searching with a friend. At least Coldpaw thought that's what they were he had never had a friend before. Normaly a thought like that would invoke more pessimisum, but his happiness couldn't be brought down like that right now.
He like gathering herbs, identafying them, rooting around in the brush for that one plant. He exspecaily liked being able to show the clan that he could learn to be a great medicine cat, that Darksky wasn't just wasting time humoring him since he couldn't be a warrior.

The dark tabby looked at Coldpaw with a smile. Something warm stirred in his chest to see the medicine-cat apprentice grinning back at him. He hadn't felt that for a long time before he had joined the clan, not since he last saw Night.
"C'mon, lets get moving." He said, giving Coldpaw a light, almost brotherly, nudge. "You never know, the merigolds could have run away by the time we get there." He chuckled, heading for the entrance. He looked at the other apprentice over his shoulder. What was his name? Brokenpaw had no clue, but he guessed he would find out eventually. "You coming? You don't have to, but you're welcome, I guess." He mewed to him, his eyes drifting to Coldpaw for a reaction, to check if he was good with the other apprentice joining them.
A twig cracked just outside the entrance, and Brokenpaw's attention moved there. His eyes narrowed, but only for a second. He had a feeling... it was stupid.... But still....
Brokenpaw couldn't shake the feeling that somewhere, somewhere close, a certain striped tabby was planning something. Something bad.
