Redwing blinked, eyes sparking toward the sky. A freshly-caught mouse was his only company, but it was spared barely a glance, golden eyes turning in favor of the streaked clouds to the west. I should've been hunting, he reasoned, And I should head back to camp now, before someone comes looking.
The bi-colored tabby didn't budge.
It was strange, honestly--he'd come out on the pretense of hunting, but he'd really been looking for Silverpaw, or even Bristlefur, someone, anyone he was remotely close to, and now... Now that he'd failed in finding them he should go back to his warm den and at least be around the presence of his Clanmates. He knew that, but just couldn't bring himself to do it.
A sigh rumbled from the brush as the first star of the night appeared in the dying embers of the sun.
If they missed him, they could come find him.

Coldpaw crept forward in a careful manor. he still wasnt use to the fact the territory was theirs and he didnt need to creep along like a shadow anymore. he made his way carefully to the waters edge to lap up a drink. he noted a ginger and white tom looking to the sky. the cat smelled of fireclan though Coldpaw was still to new to remember his individual scent. he forced him self to remain by the lake instead of racing up to the warrior. 'i cant force my company on others' he scolded him self 'i dont want another Hawk incident'. settling down the small black cat turned to look at the lake, peering hopefully at the tom from the corner of his eye.

Brokenpaw looked down at the two cats from his perch on a high tree branch and frowned. one of them was staring up at the sky thoughtfuly. it reminded the apprentice unpleasantly of Night...
His eyes widened as thoughts of his sister flodded his mind. he saw her, cold and helpless, him the only one to take care of the pathetic scrap of black fur.
and he saw those stunning, confused, and undeniably hurt amythest eyes staring at him in shock as he left, telling her coldly not to follow.
he shook his head, turning his gaze onto the other cat to distract him.
he tilted his head. hm.... another newcomer, like him. this cat was timid, probably from being hurt in the past. he struggled to keep his thoughts from Night. the apprentice seemed to want the other cat to notice him, but was too nervous to make himself known. meanwhile, the first cat was too intranced by the stars to notice.
vaugely interested in what would happen first; the first cat looking down from the stars or the second cat approaching the first, Brokenpaw settled on the branch, nearly invisible in the darkness.

The stars seemed to entrance Redwing for hours, but it wasn't long before the reeds rustled softly and he sensed another cat approach. He heard the quiet splashing of water, tried to ignore the presence it brought as it faded to silence. Tried, but the gaze he could feel made his fur prickle uncomfortably, and when the wind shifted, blowing faint traces of another scent nearby--another cat hunting, perhaps?--he sighed and rolled his eyes. Best to deal with the one he could see first. "What do you--" Biting his tongue at the sight of the little apprentice, Redwing paused and glanced at the sky instead. Something about it melted some of the anger from his eyes, and he sighed again. When he spoke, his voice was softer and much less scathing than before, but still every bit as gruff. "Can I help you?"

Coldpaw's ears flatted at the tabby's sharp words. though they pricked up again when the other tom stopped him self and spoke with a softer tone. that suprised him more than anything that had happened sense he joined this clan. "i dont even know him yet he cares how his tone may affect me" the black cat thought "is this what being in a clan is like". he looked at the older cat with suprise wondering how a loved one could lash out such harsh word when this strange tom held them back. the scar over his blind left eye began to prickle unconfortably. coldpaw shook him self from his thoughts, swiping his white paw over his eye. he wasnt really sure how long hed been thinking but he hoped the cat hadnt seen how his thoughts had gone. though he was sure his overly expresive eyes(*cough*eye*cough*) had given his thoughts away. silently he padded within a comfortable talking distance from the warrior, he had to fight the urge to sit at his side. he was thrilled to be acknowledged at all,"don't push it" he warned him self like a queen warning her kits. "not-realy-i-dont-realy-need-anything-they-just-dont-need-me-around-camp-and-im-new-so-i-dont-have-anyone-to-talk-to-so-i-was-just-gonna-look-at-the-water-and-maybe-look-for-some-herbs" 'and maybe company' the apprentice said all in one breath. his ears drooped again when he realized he had just been rambling to a warrior and he still hadnt introduced him self. "im Coldpaw" he mewd looking at his paws, seeming more like a kit than ever. (sorry its so long i had english today)

Brokenpaw's tail twitched, his maw caught somewhere in between a smile and a frown.
half of him wanted to smile at the good memories this apprentice brought back.
the other wanted to frown for remembering.
a squirrel bounded out on a branch above him, snapping him from his thoughts. he decided to catch the squirrel, then join the two as if he had just been out hunting.
silently, he snuck off to catch his prey, leaving the two to continue talking.

"Really?" Redwing perked a brow shaking his head, "You'd think that they'd find something for you apprentices to do, given the times, instead of leaving you to wander the territory alone. Hmph." The ginger and white tom snorted.
What was FireClan coming to? A cat would think that they didn't care about their young ones... Redwing frowned when he noticed Coldpaw seem to zone out for a moment, but something about the apprentice stopped his rebuttal once again. He was too young, he decided. He stirred up far too many memories, reminded him far too much of his sister...
The warrior sighed quietly.
"Well, at least you're trying to do something with your time." The older cat acknowledged the dark apprentice with a tilt of his head. "Coldpaw, huh? I'm Redwing."
OOC: Sorry for the late reply. ^^;

"evening," Brokenpaw padded up, speaking his greeting around the limp squirrel in his jaws. he dropped it, settling in near the other two. his eyes settled on Coldpaw, as if he had just noticed him. "you're the new Medicine-cat apprentice, right? I'm Brokenpaw." then he turned to the other cat. "Redwing, right? not sure we've met."
he looked up at the stars. "nice night, huh?" he winced. Night. "you can see all the stars." he frowned. stars. Night had aways thought their mother was one of the stars, or possibly hunting among them, in Starclan. hoping his reactions had been un-noticed in the darkness, he waited for one of them to reply.

His ears pricked as he listened to the warrior, eyes shining with happiness. I felt so good to have friendly company after 4 moons of bitter lonelyness, mean rouges, and frightening dogs. 'Redwing' he thought commiting the name to memory. Coldpaw took a deep breath attaching the name the bi-colored tom's scent.
"evening" the black apprentice nearly jumped out of his fur. before he could stop himself he had whipped around to stare at the new cat. he felt his fur heat. he hadn't even noticed the other cat, to wrapped up in his thoughts and feelings. the night colored tom forced his fur flat again. The other was a tom as well, a large tom. though coldpaw didn't really think he had an acurate judgement on large being the tiny scrap of fur he was.
"you're the new Medicine-cat apprentice, right? I'm Brokenpaw." the cat now identefied as Brokenpaw said. Coldpaw nodded in confirmation, watching the dark tom.

Redwing's ear swiveled at the sound of the greeting, but his sparking gold eyes were trained on Coldpaw. A slow smirk twitched at his whiskers at the severe reaction the apprentice gave to the new tom's arrival. He was young, wasn't he?
"Relax, kid." the bi-colored warrior said quietly to Coldpaw, gruff smile still plastered across his muzzle, his way of asking, 'Like somethings gonna happen to you while you're around me?'.
"We probably haven't." Redwing turned, answering Brokenpaw simply and shrugging, "I'm not around camp much nowadays." His eyes returned to the sky, and he gave a grunt. All of StarClan was hunting tonight, it seemed. Was Pinekit tagging along with someone up there?

Brokenpaw internally winced at Coldpaw's reaction. it was like watching his sister flinch away from him, but he had to remind himself otherwise. Redwing re-assuring him made Brokenpaw think of his mother. how was it that he could always pick out some sort of similarity in every cat to relate to those he most wanted to forget?
he nudged Coldpaw jokingly. "don't worry, i won't bite. can't make any promises with clawing, though." he lauged, shaking off his insecurities.

Coldpaw's tail stopped its nervous twitching with Redwings words and smile. and he managed to keep from jumping at Brokenpaw's nudge, with just a slight flinch. he didn't truely think the other would hurt him, but it had been a long time sence hed felt a touch that didn't intend to do harm.
he actually suprised him self by starting to trust these cats. It probablly had to do with how they looked at him as another cat. the usual looks of pity, disgust, or contempt weren't present on these toms. the bent ear, twisting scar, and clouded blank eye was all taken instride.
Coldpaw offerd a small smile to the other apprentice.

Brokenpaw tried to ignore the small flinch from the medicine-cat apprentice.
it's proabably not personal or anything... he thought, his gaze sweeping nonchalantly over the other cat's scarred eye. he must have been hurt before. that can scar a cat far beyond just losing an eye.
Brokenpaw's thoughts wandered to his time living in twoleg alleys. he remembered the frightened eyes of those who had been hurt, or maimed and left to bleed. even if they had recovered, they would never forget it, and would never truly trust again...
blinking away his thoughts, he tried changing the subject. "so, what're you two doing out at this time of night? granted, i'm out too so i can't judge." he smiled, settling in.

Redwing glanced at Coldpaw, quietly taking the little apprentice in. All signs pointed to a rough past, a rough life, and it made the tom inexplicably angry. How long had the young cat been an apprentice? How long had he born those scars? He had to force his fur from bristling at the thought of the kind of demon who would do such a thing to a kit.
And then he had to quickly glance back up at the sky, thankful for the darkness that drew upon them. An image of a particular she-cat had appeared in his mind's eye...
"Hmm?" Brokenpaw jerked him away from his, admittedly, heretic thoughts, and his golden eyes flickered back to the younger tom. He shrugged. "... Just thinking. You?"

Brookenpaw ducked his head guiltily. "Well, i wasn't really supposed to be out i don't think. i just wanted some space i guess. it's tough, going from solitude to a clan. theres always someone there, you know?"
Brokenpaw stretched, waiting to see if Coldpaw would reply or not.

Coldpaw let out a quiet giggle, his shoulders shaking softly. "weird" he mewed "i came cuz there wasn't anyone". he was staring of into space like he was looking at something."i mean there are cats but they aren't really there." "they have their own little groups, jobs, and lives" his voice was sad with a slightly bitter edge like he thought those cats didnt realize what they had
"I still can't understand a clan. its not like the rouge groups back, back there" he couldn't bring himself to call that place home, "with everyone hissing and spitting at everyone else, but its not like a family with everyone loving and suporting eachother.
coldpaw blinked and looked at the two of them again feeling kind of embarest for going on like that "um sorry" was the only thing he could think of to say. 'i hope redwing doesn't think i meant him as well' him and brokenpaw had been from outside the clan but he was pretty sure redwing had grown up here and coldpaw didn't want him to think he was dissing him or his clan.

If Redwing was offended, he certainly didn't show it. In fact, that same old smirk appeared on his muzzle as he turned back to the two younger cats. In a way, they were both right. Lately, Redwing had been feeling as though he'd been the only cat in the forest, isolated, but overwhelmed by the presence of his clanmates as well. Alone in a crowd.
"That's kind of the point." The bi-colored tabby replied to Brokenpaw. "There's always someone there." He glanced at Coldpaw as well, speaking to both apprentices at once.
"You don't have to love someone to support them. I certainly don't like everyone in FireClan, but if there was a badger or a fox after any one of them, I'd have my claws in its pelt in a heartbeat." His smirk broadened, and a gruff chuckle wafted out over the lake. "Maybe that was a bad example, though, considering how just about everyone knows I'd love to sink my claws into a fox whether it was chasing a clanmate or not."

Brokenpaw felt a wave of overwhelming sadness for some reason. both of their words brought back memories...
a flame-colored rouge cornered Night, pinning her against a dumpster.she had run off from a fight she had with Brokenpaw a few minutes earlier. even though Brokenpaw was angrier than a mother badger without her cubs, he had followed his sister, and was there to rip the pelt off the surprised rouge. he could have just let her go, to learn a lesson, but he fought off her would-be attacker, and brought her back to their temporary shelter.
Brokenpaw sniffed, one tiny tear nearly leaving his eye. but he blinked it back, saving himself from embarrasment.
"I'm not saying i don't enjoy there being other cats there. it's just different. and somehow, i feel a bit isolated as well. i hang back because i'm not sure if the existing groups would welcome me or not." he offered, regaining his composure quickly, barely missing a step.

Coldpaw gave a small nod of agreement with brokenpaw. something nudged at the egde of the black cat's mind. he turned ice blue eyes to redwing "did a fox do something to you? i heard they steal kits, did they take one of yours?" he mewd softly.ooc: i made ref for my kitties.... sort of silver-ko-13.deviantart.com/art/Warrior-cats-146788347

Redwing shook his head, pretending he hadn't seen the aggrieved look that had flitted across Brokenpaw's face.
"There'll always be a few that won't like you for some reason or another. That's just the way it is." The scrawny tom shrugged, "But I don't think you have anything to worry about. You'll find a place to fit in just fine. Just give it some time."
Then came Coldpaw's question, like a slap to the face, and Redwing had to clamp his jaws shut to hold back a hiss. Not at the apprentice, but at the subject itself. He wanted nothing more to snarl and shirk it off, but then Coldpaw couldn't have known what a touchy subject he'd just brought up, could he? He was new to the Clan; he wouldn't know about Redwing's past, and none of their Clanmates were stupid enough to approach the topic.
"I haven't taken a mate yet, let alone had kits," he started gruffly, golden eyes sparking into the distance, "But yes, you could say a fox took something from me." His gaze wandered to the stars again. They looked so cold and lonely. She was alone in a crowd of millions. Pinekit. His fault. I'll never forgive myself for it...
