The star returns

Starpaw looked around cautiously, every hair on her pelt sticking up in apprehension. From her place behind a large, rather burnt looking tree, Starpaw could see nothing, or more specifically, nothing of Foxcloud. She didn't feel any relief from this- Foxcloud could appear from nowhere..Silently, the white she cat slunk forward, her paws making no noise. She grimaced- she must stand out- her white pelt against the inky darkness. Her bi-colored eyes glimmered slightly in the moonlight before she turned her face away and padded cautiously on. If only she could make it back to camp without any unwanted attention..

"So...the little Starpaw returns." a crackled voice laughed from what seemed to be everywhere. Though, in truth, the owner of its darkness was slinking among the darkest parts of the undergrowth.

Foxcloud had waited here. Silently. Stalking the border for possibly longer then a normal cat would have cared to wait in the damp, dark, forest depths. The deputy was persistent though. She might have waited longer if the small white head of her target hadn't perked from behind that large tree briefly.

"So...will you beg? Attempt to explain? Or will you try and convince me why your life is so important to this clan, that you should have another chance to prove your loyalty?" Foxcloud's form stalked slowly in the depths. Voice of such a low tone, her target would have to stop and listen. Each carefully placed step took her closer. "Will you run again?" yellow eyes flashing with the blood lust that called to her sharp claws, the Fireclan deputy paused her advance upon the apprentice's surprisingly open position. Instead, she began to take a different path. One that would slowly begin to take her around the target, yet still protected from unfocused eyes. "If you run again, Starpaw, you will not be allowed back here..." Foxcloud froze. From this new angle, she could make out the younger she-cat's outline through the thick leaves. She was facing her flank. An outline was all she needed anyway. "Sunset can try, but she won't protect you forever." the deputy grinned darkly, for she knew where Starpaw had gone.

(aahhhh!! FOXCLOUD! *ww4J jumps up a tree* lol yeah, it was creepy! lol XD you play foxcloud so well!)

Starpaw nearly jumped out of her fur, but she hid it and her dismay with a defiant look around her. She hissed quietly at herself- Foxcloud was nowhere near in sight. It took everything just to hear her voice...Starpaw surpressed s shudder and her eyes narrowed. "Ha, if you thought I was running away from the clan, Foxcloud, you're sadly mistaken. My loyalty is to this clan, I would never do anything to betray it." She growled, every sense alert. She had to try to discern where he fiery deputy would emerge from- her life could depend on it! She observed without seeming to observe, her ears pricked, weight balanced lightly on her paws, and her eyes flitting across the trees, surveying every bush and leaf, checking for any unnatural motion... "Betray my clan never, others....I wouldn't hestitate to. Why should I hold any loyalty to you? or any obedience? You who tried to kill a kit!" She snarled, her fur sticking up on end. All she could think was, Thank starclan Smallkit's back safe in Skyclan.. The little kit had nearly become Foxcloud's prey. That made Starpaw's blood boil and she growled loudly.. She couldn't help but gasp at Foxcloud's mention of Sunset. How had she known? Had...Had she followed her all the way to Earthclan territory? The white apprentice let out a mew of dismay, unable to stop herself.

Foxcloud gave a shallow chuckle, both at Starpaw's words and ending dismay. "I never said you ran from the clan, sweet Starpaw, and you've always been loyal to Fireclan." the deputy's tail twitched briefly, the only movement her frozen body had made through her speech. "Every cat gets three. You didn't get rid of that kit, but instead played with it. That was one. Then you left, and went to Sunset for protection over your own birth clan. That was two." a pause came when a distant bird call went off. "I'm not in a giving mood right now, little Starpaw. My temper is short today. If you don't somehow make up for the first two, I'll create a third." Foxcloud prepared her body and focus on the possible leap for the younger she-cat's neck. Claws flexing with anticipation. The leaves of the underbrush shifted slightly before her thanks to the wind. This only made the Fireclan apprentice more clear to those sharp yellow eyes.

"Be wise, cute Starpaw. Your next move with be life or death."

Starpaw growled low in her throat, her calmness beginning to slip away. How had Foxcloud known? She hissed in frustration and rising fear. She whirled around, her ears twitching as she searched for the source of Foxcloud's voice, but it, like the breeze, passed quickly, though much more violently. The once comfortable camp, a place of solace and comfort, was gone- everything seemed sinister, and darker now that she'd returned...Her mind returned to that happy time with Hiddenpaw and her family- it'd been filled with peace and happiness and it was obvious the cats had shared a tight bond of loyalty, which none would ever break. She longed for that. Fireclan once held that same integrity, that same to the death loyalty and love amongst it's members, but with Foxcloud's coming, it had died. Fear replaced loyalty, and tension replaced the trust that had once bound them together. Instead of sorrow, and panic, Starpaw could feel a sense of strength flowing into her, and her fur fluffed up with indignant anger. "Well then, if my next move denotes my life or death, then let it be the one where I defy you." She hissed, her blue and silver eyes narrowed. "You bring shame to our clan- to think, a rogue's band is so much more unified and.."She shook her head, unable to continue. She looked steadily at some bushes, not knowing if Foxcloud was there or not, but not caring either. "I'd be careful if I were you Foxcloud. Sunset's anger against you is great...Fireclan stands behind you only in fear, while they have a trust and love for each other. I don't think you'll be able to stand against them." She hissed..

(bleah.h......*stinks at explaining* )

Foxcloud grinned at Starpaw's little spunky attitude, but waited to reply until the wind picked up. "I do not fear Sunset. Her weakness is too clear, and the wrath of a mother can become blinded often easily." air swirled harshly about, taking her words about the area. The deputy even thought her voice had come from behind her for a moment. "You speak of the clan following me in fear? They know nothing of my actions. All they know is that I'm their deputy."

The Fireclan deputy flicked her tail. She admired the younger she-cat's spunk, but her attitude would become nothing but trouble for possibly both of them. "In the little Star doesn't twinkle a new tune, she will no longer be welcomed in the land of Fire." Foxcloud growled lowly, silently taking another step closer. Her little riddle would easily be understood, but was deathly serious.

Starpaw growled, and then padded away. What else could she do? The threat in Foxcloud's little "riddle" was painfully clear. The snowy white apprentice's fur prickled, and she waited for the wieght on her shoulders and the sting of claws.....her mind flashed back to sunset again. She hoped that Foxcloud was underestimating her opponent, but....Foxcloud had the strange ability to judge opponents well and discover true weaknesses...Starpaw growled to herself. It was true- the clan was ignorant, and ignorance paved the way for all sorts of atrocities.....She didn't say a word. How could she? There was absolutely notthing to say to Foxcloud's threat. If only she could open the eyes of her clanmates to Foxcloud's treachery....But she knew it wouldn't work...The fiery she cat had too much of a hold on the clan- many still trusted her.

The wind played whispers in the air, dry, hot whispers. Laughing whispers. Tabby ears cowered, bowed away from the onslaught of her own mind. She cringed and back into a bush, ignoring the heat prickling her light paws. Her brown and black fur was soaked. The water in the lake had seemed... so inviting at first. Toxicfang could do it. Lowering her head, Moonlitice shook off the water and padded toward the camp. The buzzing in her mind, however, refused to die down no matter how far she got from the wind.

Pausing at the brink of the camp, Moonlitice breathed in deeply. Starpaw was back, and so was Foxcloud. Her breath caught. What would Foxcloud do to the young apprentice. She walked silently inside, and instant relief pulled at her pelt. For some reason it was cooler in the camp. But Moonlitice was on a mission. She headed strait toward Foxcloud, nothing unusual, the two often talked, and pretended to ignore Starpaw.

"Hello Foxcloud. I see you found Starpaw," Moonlitice mewed pleasantly. Even when she knew that Foxcloud was angry, Moonlitice's pelt prickled with warmth toward the she-cat. Despite all the deeds she had down, Moonlitice looked to Foxcloud like a sister. It was impossible for her to stay mad at Foxcloud for long. She was just too close in.

Starpaw slowly let out a breath, but then caught herself. Moonlitice was close to Foxcloud...She didn't doubt that the deputy wouldn't hesitate to kill her in front of Moonlitice...She could tell that Moonlitice loved Foxcloud like a sibling or mentor- she could see it in her eyes. Starpaw growled quietly. How anycat could love Foxcloud in any capacity was beyond her reasoning. She waited, tense, unconciously holding her breath as she surveyed the pair...What would Foxcloud do now? Starpaw didn't know...She backed up slowly....

Foxcloud gave a gentle stretch. "Sleep well Moonlitice?" A casual conversation? Now? The sudden friendly tone was almost alien for the situation that had been only moments before. To add to the sudden change in mood wasn't being faked. The deputy's sharp yellow eyes seem slightly dulled compaired to when she gazed at someone else.

With her ignoring Starpaw completely, was it possible she no longer cared? Her threat had gotten across, and the apprentice did only have 'two strikes' to the possible three. There truely was no further reason for Foxcloud to keep her there.




OOC: Bah...some how I feel this post could have been better. CURSE MY COMPUTER FOR EATING UP THE LAST POST!!! *shakes fist*

Starpaw didn't wait another minute. She took off like a streak of white lightning, headed for the camp. Thank goodness Moonlitice had arrived...She would have been mouse dung by now if the tabby warrior hadn't intervened! For some reason, only Moonlitice could distract/ see Foxcloud's better side...Starpaw wondered why that was, but, the thought was soon banished as she headed back to camp, and slipped inside, thinking about all the Sunset had said...She was eager to start...and impatient to throw off Foxcloud's reign of terror....

(awww that stupid compy!! DX I HATE when that happens... )

Moonlitice blinked slightly as Starpaw sprinted away, every hair on her tabby pelt prickling in discomfort. She knew Foxcloud's murder look. It had never been turned on her, but she had known it to be used on others. She shivered for a second before turning back to Foxcloud.

"Yes, though it was awfully quiet in there. Strange... where is everyone?" Glancing around, she saw no one else in the clearing and frowned. "A little unnerving, don't you think Foxcloud? Though I'm sure that they are all hunting and on patrol." Moonlitice stared at the ground. She hated the quiet. It reminded her of that night when Littlekit had been killed. "But I'm glad that you're still here Foxcloud. The camp is safe with you here." She wondered briefly how true she really thought that statement was, but she flicked the thought away. Foxcloud cared about FireClan and what was best for it. She knew that much was true.
