Rose awoke to the sounds of bleating, far off, but enough for her sensitive ears to ring from. She yawned and stretched, her feet extending off the bale of hay she slept on. Nudging her sister softly, she meowed, "Lily, wake up, we were going to go talk to Oldba today." Her sister stirred. Lily's brilliant blue eyes blinked away the dreams.
"Rose, I had that strange dream again. The one with all those wild cats?" Lily yawned. Her creamy fur ruffled as her lungs expanded.
"Lily, it's just a dream, a part of your imagination, it's not real." Rose sighed, having heard the description too many times for her patience to handle.
"I know, you've told me that many times." Lily sighed, nodding her head.
"Okay then, let's go!" Rose jumped from the bale, landing with a soft thump. Lily jumped further and bursted off in a run, laughing.
They skirted around from the barn, racing toward a green, lush field. A small black lamb kicked up his heels excitedly. "Roseba, Lilyba!" he bleated, trotting toward them.
"Hi Blackba!" Lily replied in sheep.
Rose slowed down, slightly winded from the run. Her tail twitched in greeting toward Blackba.
The lamb bleated in a harsh, quick way;his way of laughing.
"Let's go see Oldba. We're going to hear about the cats over the mountains."
Rose perked her ears. This sounded like an adventure. Lily hopped up and down, purring with delight.
The trio led by the lamb walked away from the fence and toward the large, ageless apple tree in the middle in the field. An old sheep grazed peacfully. At the sound of their approach, her head popped up, her copper eyes softening at the sight of the two young cats. "Deaaarrriess." she baaed.
Lily was the only one who spoke sheep, but Rose could understand it, so Lily did most of the talking. "Hello Oldba!" she greeted the ewe.
"Reeaaddy for yoouuur storry?" Blackba laid down, her aging joints refusing to carry her weight for longer.
"Of course!" Lily piped.
The sheep started chewing her cud absentmindedly, but started the story.
"Many years ago, a large group of cats moved through these fields in search of a new home. They were called the "Clans". There was 5 huge groups, each led by a strong, respected leader. These groups of cats were fierce, beautiful, and the most adventurous lifestyle I had ever seen." Blackba then proceeded to fall asleep. Lily turned to Rose, a michievious glint in her blue eyes.
"Rose, we should go find them." she whispered, trying not to wake the ancient ewe.
"Lily, it's just a story." Rose tried to convince herself.

"How do you know? They could be real!" Lily objected.
"Even if they are real, that doesn't mean we could run off and find them! We have no idea where they are!"Rose hissed, wanting to return to her simple life, not this obscure idea of wild cats.
"If you would go with me, I'll find them myself!" Lily yowled, dashing away toward the mountains.
"Lily! Wait!" Rose called after her.
Lily continued running, throwing occasional good-byes behind her toward the animals of the farm. Rose turned to Blackba, remembering a common two-leg motion, she raised her paw, waving it slightly. The lamb nodded solemly, understanding.
Rose ran after Lily, calling her name. This chase continued until nightfall, when Rose summited the first hill. Looking behind her, she could see the spect that was her home. She sighed sadly. She searched for a sleeping spot, finding an indention in the roots of a tree. Rose fell asleep quickly, dreaming of forever searching for her sister.
Rose awoke with a jump. In her dream, she had almost caught Lily's tail, but fell into a large, gaping hole. Rose shook herself of the dream, and noticed a warm body next to hers. "Lily!" she exclaimed.
Lily stretched and yawned. "Good Morning."
