Dreampaw- A Lone Runaway

A cold air brushed her fur. The newborn kit was becoming cold very fast. She shivered, and listened to the world around her. "It's a she-cat," a gentle voice purred to the cat that appeared to be her mother.

Another warm body appeared next to her. Must be a littermate, the young she-kit thought. "Another she-cat," the same gentle voice said. "No more kits." The tired breathing of her mother can in short gasps. "Names?"

"The little black one is Hollykit," the white she-cat's mother said. Her sister was now named, but she still was unnamed. "The other one is Dreamki-." Her mother broke off. Dreamkit knew that something was wrong. What's wrong with mommy? she asked herself.

"Waterpetal?" the gentle voice asked worried. Something was right, Dreamkit didn't know what she could do.

The gentle cat raced for the room. Dreamkit felt herself getting colder. Her mother convulsed. Is she dying? I haven't met her yet! The gentle cat returned, a odd smell followed her. "Don't leave us Waterpetal," she purred softly. She bent over Dreamkit's mother and started chewing the herbs.

"Nightshadow . Help. Me. Please," Waterpetal rasped. Nightshadow gave her a little black seed. "Don't. Let. Me. Die." Waterpetal closed her eyes, but her chest still rose and fell. Dreamkit nestled closer to Hollykit. "What's happening?" she asked. Hollykit didn't answer, but she just laid down to sleep. Dreamkit joined her, not knowing the horrors that awaited her in the morning.

(NOOO DUN'T DIE! =( I'd almost forgotten Hollypaw and Dreampaw are sisters.. *is horrified with self* Didn't they have two brothers? Tinykit and Frostkit? *is unsure*)

Dreamkit leapt on her mother, in a play fight, she batted at her ears with sheathed claws. "Gottcha!" she cried. She felt Brooksplash gently kick her off. "No! Get her Hollykit!" Dreamkit recovered from her spill and joined Hollykit in attack. Dreamkit attacked Brooksplash's tail. She pinned it down, only to have her mother pull it away again. She quickly glanced at Hollykit's black pelt swirling around Brooksplash's legs. "We're winning! Keep up attack!"

Okay little ones time to sleep," Brooksplash meowed stepping away from the play fighting kits. Dreamkit wined, but walked to their shared nest. Dreamkit curled up next to Hollykit. "Sleep tight you two, don't let Demonclan bit." Brooksplash was asleep almost as soon as she curled up behind the kits. Dreamkit poked Hollykit with her paw, but her sister was already asleep. How am I supposed to do anything with Brooksplash, Cedarkit, Cherrykit, Birchkit, Lakeripple, and Hollykit all sleeping? Dreamkit thought. She wanted to go out and have an adventure. I know what I'll do! I'll sneak out of camp then play in a tree! Dreamkit thought and quietly crept from her nest. Brooksplash suddenly moved, and Dreamkit froze in midstep. The adoptive queen mewled and rolled over in her sleep. That was close, Dreamkit thought.

She was nearing the camp entrance now. She slipped quietly out of the camp. A tall tree loomed before her, and Dreamkit leapt into it. She played until the sun began to rise. Oh no! I'd better get back, she thought creeping back into the nursery. She settled down next to Hollykit and fell into a deep sleep.

"That's okay," Hollykit's sadden mew reached Dreamkit's ears. "You can teach me some of the stuff you learn as an apprentice! And I'll bet Froststar already has an awesome mentor for you!" Although Hollykit sounded happy, she had a sad tone that etched into her ears. Why is Hollykit talking about training and mentors? She is too young to be an apprentice. Dreampaw thought.

"Yeah, you're right!" Cedarkit's excited meow joined in Dreamkit's ears. Oh, she realized. Cedarkit is going to become an apprentice! That means Cherrykit and Birchkit will too. I'm so happy for them! Dreamkit blinked the sleep from her eyes. Understanding washed over her mind. Cedarkit and Hollykit had woken her up, after her night adventure. Dreamkit was so tired.

"What's with all the racket?" Dreamkit hissed. She yawned and stretched. She padded over to her sister. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Eagletalon and Lakeripple.

Brooksplash adopted Dreampaw? Sweet....Did you know Pondshine is Brooksplash's daughter? Lakeripple and I came up with that, but I don't think we ever announced it or anything. <.<"
