Hiddenpaw licked her feathery tail, her blue eyes scanning the camp. Everyone seemed to accept her, but Hiddenpaw knew she was different. She knew that she wasn't like those she knew. Sighing, she put her gray head on her black paws, and closed her clear blue eyes. Things looked better in the dark...
But she couldn't fall asleep. Something was stopping her. Angry now, Hiddenpaw opened her eyes again, searching for Forestfur. He seemed to know the most about her, and he always stared at her eyes, mouth open, surprised like an idiot, like he had never seen blue eyes before. Hiddenpaw knew for a fact that he had the same eyes. Why were they so different, so strange to him?

Lilypaw strode into camp with a squirrel in her jaws. She had only caught it because she had imagined it was a Tribe rogue. Her greens eyes caught a melancholy Hiddenpaw. Lilypaw liked her, and felt some connection with the pretty she-cat. She set her squirrel down in front of some elders and walked over to a corner she favored. She cleaned her claws carefully in habit after a hunt, then went to the apprentice's den. "Hey." she said as she passed Hiddenpaw.

Hiddenpaw looked up. "Hey Lilypaw," she mewed, happy that someone was talking to her. Cats did talk to her, but, not unless she went up to them. She didn't smell bad, did she?

"What's with the gloom?" Lilypaw asked carefully, not wanting to be nosy, she hated nosy cats.

Hiddenpaw hesitated. "I'm treated... different. I don't know why, don't know what I did wrong."

"Join the club, we have our own den." Lilypaw laughed. "I know how it feels, but my reason is pretty obvious. Well, I'll correct myself, obvious to WaterClan." It felt good to talk about the dark shadow surrounding her, scaring everyone away.

Hiddenpaw sighed. "At least you know, I have no idea why this is happening to me."

"You'll find out soon enough. The truth is always found. And with these alliances, lots of secrets will be found." Lilypaw said with strange wisdom. "I just want to rip the pelts of those nasty Tribe cats." she added, sounding more like herself, "but a FireClan or WaterClan cat will do."

Hiddenpaw winced. "I don't think they're to blame... I mean, it's all Foxcloud's fault..."

"True. I think it's mouse-brained that the entire forest is thrown into turmoil because of one cat, especially that it's happened twice now. Maybe someone will stop it. I'd join that crew." Lilypaw agreed, not knowing of Foxfur's idea(mwuahahaha!!!).

Hiddenpaw yawned and stretched. "Forestfur seems to know the most about me. He says I'll understand who I am when I am ready, that I'll meet my parents. He says my father doesn't even know I'm alive, but that my mother took me here so that I may live in the Clans. I assume, then, that I am not Clanborn."

"The only good cat that would really know where I was born is Froststar of WaterClan." Lilypaw sighed. "And why would she answer the questions of a lowly EarthClan apprentice? At least Forestfur tells you." Lilypaw looked at Hiddenpaw jealously.

"He really doesn't. Who is this mother than anyway? And if I am not Clanborn, where was I born?" Hiddenpaw shook her head. "So many questions he still has yet to answer."

"Then let's make a vow." Lilypaw said as she peered up at the sky.

Hiddenpaw looked up, confused. "A vow on what?"

"That we'll both find out the truth of our parents. Everything." Lilypaw said with a strange glint of unmoving certainty in her eyes.

Hiddenpaw sat up and nodded. "I will vow on that. For I do not care how many moons it may take, I will discover the truth of my past."

"And I promise that I will find out who my father is and why my mother left me in EarthClan." Lilypaw looked around for something to mark their vows. A stump behind them was perfect. She unsheathed her claws and scratched 4 long, deep marks vertically.

Hiddenpaw padded up to the stump as well and put her marks going horizontally.

Lilypaw smiled for the first time. She had made a friend.
