Sunwhisker gazed out into the lake of light, the sun reflecting off the glittering water. Her golden fur warmed her up in the hot Greenleaf weather and she closed her big brown sparkling eyes. She listened to the splashing of the fish in the lake and the soft peep of the crickets in the grass. Then she smelled it. It smelled wonderful, like the catmint that grew in Twolegplace.
A mouse. Her eyes shot open, and with lightning speed, she pounced on the furry little brown creature and killed it with a swift death bite to the neck. She padded over to the ferns near the lake and buried her lunch there. She laid down on her side, closed her eyes, and was just about to fall into the vast pool of dreams when she heard a rustle in the bushes. She sat up straight, not wanting any cat in her clan thinking that she was lazy. Rats, she thought, I was just about to enjoy an afternoon nap! and she turned her head to see who the newcomer was.
