A burning quest amid dark skies...

Burning's eyes hardened as he approached the Fireclan border. He'd never hated any cat ,but these cats had taken away his brother, Jet, and that was unforgiveable. With a quiet hiss, he took his first step into Fireclan territory, and darted quickly through the brambles and bushes, making as little noise as possible. He was tired of waiting, Jet needed rescuing now!

Darksky padded around. She sniffed the air. Coltsfoot. Just what she needed. Darksky pulled some of leaves off the stems. Then a foreign scent smacked her in the nose. Rogue! Darksky looked around. She spotted a pale Ginger pelt in the weeds. She crouched and slowly crept toward the rogue. She leapt, aiming to bowl the cat over.

Burning yowled loudly as something, a black something bowled him over. He hissed and swatted at his attacker, his claws extended. Rats! He'd been discovered by a Fireclan cat! He growled, and attempted a move he'd seen Sunset use, letting his body go limp, and then when the cat relaxed, exploding in a jump meant to throw off the enemy, and spinning around in midair to land on them. Burning's eyes narrowed as he waited...

(bleah... my muse is not here atm..)

Darksky hissed, but when she hit the ground. She was winded. She wasn't going to win this. This rogue was a good fighter, and fighting wasn't her strong suit. "Who are you?" she hissed angrily.

Burning was suprised at how easily she'd conceded. Yes, this Fireclan cat was female, he noticed with surprise. He hadn't noticed earlier, in the heat of the "battle". "A cat with a mission." he meowed, eyes narrowed. "I'm here to get my brother, whom your deputy stole!" he spat...

Darksky peered out of the weeds. The rogue was a tom. She was struck by his pale green eyes. She felt her heart thump rapidly. "Oh that cat, he got sick this leaf-bare. I patched him, nice cat," she meowed, surpringly nicer then before.

Burning reared back. "You patched him? Wha- oh are you the medicine cat?" he meowed, his tone a little less hostile, but still wary. He let the she cat up, and gave her a wary look. She didn't seem as bad as the stories went...He'd heard about Fireclan's viciousness and willingness to hurt others to get what they wanted. But then again, some cats weren't that reliable, especially wayward rogues. No cat from the High Hills band had said that, but they had hinted at somethings. "Is my brother okay? How is Jet?" he meowed, his voice urgent..

Darksky smiled. She stood, and started to lick dead leaves from her black pelt. "Yes, I am, I was still an apprentice when my mentor-," she stopped herself. Why am I telling him this? He's a rogue, why should he care? My clan stole his brother, he should hate me... she thought, surprisingly sad that he should hate her. "He's doing fine, well as can be expected being held captaive... I sneak him and the other cat, Mint, out. Usually when Foxcloud is on patrol or hunting, when she won't know they left the camp," Darksky informed the tom. He was almost her opposite coloring wise. He had light green eyes, she had dark blue eyes. He was pale ginger, she was pure black.

ooc: It's like Sunset and Skywalker only the colorings are backwards... Burning get to be the sun and Darksky gets to be the moon.

(LOL!! so it is! XD wow, I didn't notice that til now, what a coincidence!)

"You do?" Burning meowed, surprised. "I thought all you Fireclan cats would be more...vicious I suppose." he meowed, his guard lowered. He couldn't hate this she cat- instead he felt a rush of gratitude towards her- she went out of her way to help Jet and Mint..."Can... can I see them?" he meowed, his angry stance all but lost.

(lol don't worry, he'll fall in love, but it'll be a bit ^^)

Darksky chuckled. "Really there's only a few, but really it's just the deputy, Foxcloud..." Darksky said. "It's my job to kind, but the other's." She flicked his ear with her tail. Why did I do that? she asked herself. "Follow me, I can't bring you into the camp, but I can bring them to you." If Foxcloud is there, I'll ask if I can use them to help me carry herbs back... She may or may not say yes, but if she says no I'll wait until she leaves to sneak them out... Darksky lead him to a tree. "Stay here, I'll get them," she meowed. Darksky slipped into camp. Foxcloud was there, she wouldn't let her take the cats... "I'll get them myself, thanks though," she meowed cheerily, and left the camp. She walked back to where the rogue was hiding. "Foxcloud wouldn't let me take them from the camp, but I'll sneak them out later..."

Burning slumped, disappointed. So he wouldn't get to free Jet and Mint just yet... He sighed. "Oh well...One of these days they'll be free of Foxcloud.." He gave the Fireclan she cat a grateful look. "Thanks so much, for trying at least...My name's Burning, what's yours?" He meowed, admiring the way her beautiful black fur shone....

Darksky was disappointed that she was unable to help the rogue. Why do I even care? she asked herself. Darksky couldn't answer herself. And she wasn't sure she wanted to. "I'll help, if I can," the black she-cat meowed. She rested her tail on the rogue's light ginger shoulder. "There's only so much I can do though, I have to stay loyal. Even though I don't agree with the kidnapping..." Darksky smiled at Burning. "I'm Darksky," she meowed happily. Ooh, I wonder if he's in that Rogue Band...

Burning purred his thanks, surprised that she'd offer to help. "Wow, thanks. You've totally challenged everything I've been told about Fireclan cats. It's a nice surprise actually...Thanks Darksky." He smiled, liking the feel of her soft tail on his shoulder. "Maybe...maybe I'll come back tomorrow?" He asked, "It was nice to meet you, I'd love to have a friend- not many cats my age live in the High Hills Band." he meowed...

Darksky laughed. "What? That we're all blood-thirsty killers? Not me at least, I can barely kill prey when I'm hunting, let alone another cat," she meowed with a smile. Then sadness flooded over her. He's leaving? So soon? Wait, why am I so sad he's leaving? Darksky thought. "You don't have to leave so soon, we can go back to my herbs," Darksky began. "I have to bring them back anyway, and we could, I don't know, hang out for a bit..." So he is in that band, other then those two cats, I've never met any of them...

Burning's ears perked up. "Really? Sure, I'll help you!" He meowed, not sure why he leapt at the chance. There was just something about Darksky....He padded forward, eager to talk some more with the beautiful she cat. "And yeah..." He chuckled nervously. "That's what I've been told...But as my Band doesn't really have a soft spot for Fireclan with Foxcloud and all, I've never really heard the truth." He grimaced. "I guess that's what happens- the truth about one cat prejudices us about others in the same clan..." He shrugged apologetically, sniffing a bundle of herbs near Darksky's feet. He tilted his head. "What herbs are these?"

The sun beat down relentlessly on the parched grass. Flicking her ears irritably, Sunset drew herself through the fields. Though this was the kind of terrain she was used to it was all too... flat. Sunset hated the flatness. There was no shade at all...

She was following her eldest son's scent, anger pulsing through her veins. Why did he do this to her? Walking right up into FireClan territory, he could get caught! What would she do if another of her kits was taken from her? She would do absolutely anything to get them back... Jet and Mint were strong and wouldn't get themselves into too much trouble, but Burning? Ugh! She blinked back the tears of pain. No one had ever told her that motherhood would be so hard. She missed Jet so much, and worried about Mint, Bird's daughter.

Soon her son's scent grew stronger. It was mingling with that of a FireClan cat. Sunset breathed in. The cat was a she-cat, but not one she knew. Thank StarClan it wasn't Foxcloud, or even Moonlitice, she didn't know what she would if one of them found Burning.

She hid as well as she can and looked out at her son and the cat. They were just... talking. Her blue eyes narrowed and her ears perked. About what pray tell? Why was he conversing with an enemy?

"Great! Thanks," Darksky meowed. She was strangely, very very happy that he agreed to come with her. "I don't blame them, if one of your cats stole some of our kits, we'd think the whole of your band was evil..." I don't care for that analogy, but whatever... she thought. "Coltsfoot, good to help shortness of breath. I don't usually use it, but occasionally I like to gather more..."

Burning sniffed it again. "Well, it's always good to be prepared, that much I know. Better safe than sorry." He meowed with a smile, unaware of his watching mother. "What scent should I look for? I can help you find some other herbs if you'd like...."

Sunset's ears pricked up. They were talking about... herbs! They were talking about herbs! And he was helping her! What was she doing for him in return? Sunset's pelt bristled but she did not come out yet. No, she shouldn't come out yet. Her son deserved to be fully embarrased and have his mother see the whole thing.
