Training [Wolfpaw, Eagletalon]

Eagletalon padded over to the Lake of Waters. He was waiting for his apprentice, Wolfpaw to arrive. They would have battle training.

Wolfpaw walked slowly to the lake, excited about training, but a little scared of giving away her secret if she missed what Eagletalon said. Determination filled her body and she refused to let her fear conquer her and keep her from becoming a warrior. With head held high, she padded into a clearing, where she saw her mentor, Eagletalon. She would just have to paw close attention, she thought.

"Attack me."

Wolfpaw assessed her mentor. There was no way she could overpower him- he was all muscle and was heavier than her. She might be able to use her speed to her advantage... She leapt at the tom, pretending to leap on him. At the last possible moment, she tucked her body into a somersault and attempted to roll between the tom's legs and end up behind him, in a perfect position to attack without giving him the chance to use his strength.

(is this similar to a warrior cat tactic Firepaw uses? oops..)

Eagletalon saw the move coming. He jumped and turned in the air when Wolfpaw was rolling. "Okay, but your eyes betrayed where you were going."

Wolfpaw berated herself silently. This time, she crept towards her mentor and dashed straight at him, planning to jump over his head, while raking her claws (pretending) and landing on his back. She forced herself not to look at her target, but rather, Eagletalon's eyes.

Eagletalon leapt to the side. Narrowly missing Wolfpaw's sheathed claws. "Better, but I am faster then you think."

Think, think think! Wolfpaw scolded herself again. Maybe... If she could find some way to use his strength or speed against him... She was running out of ideas, but she tried one last desperate move. She took advantage of the loose dirt that she had tore up in her last attempt to attack her mentor and threw it into his eyes before melting into the background, taking advantage the cover of a rock nearly the same color as she. When the moment was right, when he looked the wrong way, she sprang out..

Eagletalon collasped under the tiny weight of Wolfpaw. What would she do next?

Wolfpaw "clawed" his side with her velveted paws and tried to bite his neck, which would be considered the killing blow. (Is that right?)

Eagletalon felt her attempting to 'bite' his neck. Eagletalon quickly rolled over, and got to his paws.

Feeling her mentor shift, Wolfpaw leapt off and dove back into the shadows, making sure not to stay in one place, be as quiet as possible, and hide her scent... She quietly crept watched the tom, waiting for an opening in his defenses. It might work again, she thought, but she was doubtful..

Eagletalon crouched to create the least amount possible for Wolfpaw to hit.

Wolfpaw studied her mentor, who had made it more difficult for her to attack him. She would have to aim carefully and land right on target or risk missing him entirely. She grinned. A diversion was what she needed. Carefully, making sure she kept her scent hidden and paws quiet, she crept to the other side, and set up a diversion. She bent back some rushes, far enough back that Eagletalon might not see it and put a rock on them on the very edge, just barely under the right weight needed to permanently keep the rushes down. She knew that the rock wouldn't be able to stay on the rushes for long, for the rushes were stronger (they want to spring back up). SHe didn't have much time before the rushes sprang, so she hurried quietly back to her original position and waited for the diversion, waiting for another chance to spring..

Eagletalon caught a fresh scent of Wolfpaw and heard rustling rushes. She's over there, he thought, but the scent began to become stale. He swivelled his ears, one forward and one back, and he parted his jaws.

Wolfpaw took advantage of his confusion and sprang out of the bushes that he was facing away from, aiming for his back and ultimately, his neck, Would she suceed this time?

(Sheesh... Wolfpaw sounds like a vampire! lol!!)

With his ear trained backward, Eagletalon was able to dodge and turn around. She cuffed Wolfpaw gently on her ear. "You should try to come on the side I wasn't focused on," he meowed.

Wolfpaw watched her mentor intently.

"Yeah... I guess I should have. " meowed as he gently cuffed her ear. "Should I try again?"

(Should eagletalon somehow find out her secret, that she's deaf?Would that change how he feels about his apprentice? meaning whether she can be a warrior or not? oh, what about the "snatched" plot? Wolfpaw goes missing, so what should i do then? Should this have taken place before that event so I can keep posting?)

"That's enough for today," Eagletalon meowed. "Go and hunt for the elders."

Wolfpaw dipped her head respectfully. " Thanks Eagletalon! I'll be sure to bring back lots of freshkill!" The grey apprentice hurried away, nose sniffing for the scents of prey...
