Rain falling down
a weary drizzle
people walk by
hoods up
heads down.
I'm one of them for a minute.
Then I look up
see the beauty
pull off my hood
throw back my head
sticking my tounge to the heavens
to catch each drop of happiness
they send down to me.
I'm different.
School bells ringing.
students file out
like ants
unthinking
on the way to the next class
eyes glued
to white linoleum.
I look up
my eyes searching
picking out faces
of friends
of strangers
making eye contact
with those who'd rather not.
some look at me strangely.
some don't notice.
I'm different.
Night falls outside.
streetlamps bathe the road in orange.
people settle in
people say good-night
people go to sleep.
I'm one of them.
but different.
I look out the window
with a hole in my heart
calling
searching
for something to fill it
before crawling into bed.
I'm different
