Dawnflight smiled again, and this time it was sincere. "Yes, they will." She made her own search through the sparkling lights, but thoughts of her mentor, of old friends, filled her mind.
"Yes. Water always finds a way to move forward, past any obstacle that presents itself." She murmured quietly, "We, too, shall find our path."
She paused, a thoughtful smile still present on her muzzle as she turned back to Lakeripple. "Keep listening. Perhaps StarClan will have something more to share in our dreams."

Lakeripple felt immensely proud of her friend, being able to smile right now. She nodded to her words, then paused. StarClan would share more with her? Why? She was nothing. A tribe-cat turned Clan suddenly made into the deputy. What more would StarClan have to share with her. But Dawnflight's faith in her made Lakeripple happier, and she finally nodded again.
"It will take a while, but WaterClan will come out the other side intact. And with the help of this she-cat... well, we just might be better off than we were before." Lakeripple smiled up at the stars. They had done more for her tonight than perhaps even they knew. They had given a worried mother hope, and that was more important than the outcome of any battle. It kept you going on.
"Dawnflight... when was the last time you went to the Moonstone?" Lakeripple looked at the medicine cat curiously. It had been a long time since any of the half-moon meetings had occurred, the danger of the time had seen to that. But just how long had it been? Was that why StarClan was talking to her? Because they couldn't reach Dawnflight?

Dawnflight almost purred. Almost. She let her whiskers twitch instead, unable to hide her smile. "Let's hope." Then she paused, almost reluctant to let the smile slip from her face.
Eventually she sighed, and frowned, "It's been too long. Moons." She glanced at her friends worriedly, a bit ashamed to have let her duty slip for so long. "To be honest, I was planning on going come next halfmoon, danger or not... Maybe sooner." She paused to frown again, deeper. Of course, that would mean passing close to the Two-leg place, but she'd manage. She always did.

Frowning, Lakeripple shook her head in a worried way. She felt her paws prickle and she sighed deeply. The good feeling was gone. And she had ruined it. She always did.
"And I can assume this is the same for the other medicine cats? That at least the majority of them aren't going?" Lakeripple sighed again, letting her breath billow in the cold air. "It is terrible when times such as these hamper tradition." She looked at Dawnflight out of the corner of her eye. She would have to go through EarthClan and SkyClan territory to get the Moonstone. Not to mention passing right by the Twolegplace. It was a dangerous path.
"But that this of all things slips worries me. StarClan must be finding it harder to communicate." She looked back up at the sky and sent up a silent prayer that this half moon Dawnflight would get to the stone safely. It was extra important in these troubled times that StarClan was able to speak to the cats still living.

"As far as I know, though Darksky and Sinceritywhisper might still be going, since FireClan and LightningClan are close." She smiled privately; WaterClan was the farthest from the Moonstone now that she thought about it.
Then she chewed her lip, exhaling slowly. "Since FireClan," she wrinkled her nose, "is supposedly our ally, and LightningClan is neutral as of now, I was thinking of going to the Giant Oak and then cutting down along the edge of the Dry Fields until I got to the Twolegplace." She curled her tail about her paws, frowning into the sky again, not nearly as bitterly as when she'd first awoke. "Medicine Cats are supposed to be immune from Clan disputes during the half-moon, but... Well, maybe that will be safest?"
She stood up, suddenly needing to stretch. Too tense. She was getting too tense again.

The cold wind shivered for a moment, with a slightly brighter twinkle from the clinging frost about the brambles and smooth stone. A small snow-stuffed cloud drifted across the sky overhead, revealing a new star within the sky that had been hidden moments before. As the air swirled around the sleak Waterclan medicine cat, it carried with it the smell of singed fur and charred flesh. "You must both go. . .please. . ." an ash choked voice rasped quietly only within the she-cat's ear. A hidden warmth seemed to linger for only a heartbeat, before the traces of this Starclanner vanished with the comming of a second, more chilling breeze.
Deepfrost had been finding it hard to talk to any cat, let alone in their dreams, during these times. With the deputy and medicine cat talking about their starry ancestors did the tom find their ears easier to whisper into. He only hoped they both were able to make it to the stone so he might be able to talk with them in complete sentences. The stressful times has begun to make the starry tabby weak...

Dawnflight was still stretching when a sudden feeling came over her, carried, it seemed, on the chilled breeze. The she-cat froze, eyes widening abruptly. Stars and shining frost seemed to reflected from their glassy depths. As if in slow motion, her ears swung forward, into the curling wind, and she stood stock still. Time seemed to slow to a crawl... There was a scent, a voice.
You must both go... please...
The Medicine Cat felt her ears warm briefly, as if by someone's breath... and then the feeling was gone. It was a full minute before she so much as blinked, frozen as she was. The white she-cat almost couldn't believe it, almost passed it off as a trick of her mind cruelly playing upon their dearest prayers. But she didn't. The pained voice had been hardly a whisper, barely louder than the wind through the bare branches of the trees, but the words sank into her mind like a stone thrown into water. She almost couldn't believe it, if the memory of the scent of soot and burning hadn't still filled her nose, if traces hadn't clung to her whiskers...

Lakeripple nodded at Dawnflight's words. They sounded sensible enough. She should definately go to the Moonstone. It was important.
A wind brushed by her fur, chill and warm at the same time. Lakeripple watched in surprise as Dawnflight froze, looking like she was caught in slow motion, not even an ear twitching. Her friend's eyes were opened wide, and the deputy felt a surge of worry in her stomach, but it passed as quickly as it had come. A scent drifted past the deputy, faint and strange, but it too was gone quickly.
"Dawnflight? What happened!" Lakeripple got to her paws looking around. She spotted a star that had been hidden before. She swore that it hadn't been there. It hadn't! But it was there now. She vaguely remembered a story about a cat who hides behind the clouds, rarely showing his face. Deepfrost, the father of Foxcloud. His injuries leading to deather were... severe. But when he chose to show himself, it was generally of great importance.

Dawnflight broke out of her trance with a cough, wincing, then looking over at Lakeripple almost solemnly.
"Lakeripple, I think..." She bit her lip, sinking back onto her haunches. "Someone in StarClan wants to talk to us. Both of us." Her blue eyes were wide, her whiskers trembling, "I think you should come with me at the half-moon... Someone in StarClan will be waiting."

Lakeripple stayed silent for a long time, her mind working through the words. Both of them? What was this? She had only ever seen the Moonstone once, and certainly never pressed her nose against it to share dreams with her ancestors. That was a job for the leader and medicine cat! For her daughter even! Not for her.
But to her surprise, she found herself saying, "I've course I'll come, if that's what caused that look on your face. I can only guess that if that happens, StarClan has spoken directly to you." Her conscious screamed at her to TAKE THAT BACK, to stay on the safe side and protect her children here at camp, not go off for a night with her nose pressed to something freezing. But for some reason she just couldn't bring herself to do that.
"I won't lie Dawnflight, this scares me. I know nothing about this." She breathed deeply before looking her friend directly in the eye. "But I trust you."

The Medicine Cat nodded slowly, eyes roving upwards. They narrowed, and a look of puzzled contemplation appeared within their depths. Had that star always been there? And what was this feeling she'd gotten, not a bond, exactly, but a... a sort of familiarity, the kind she got when confronted with a faintly familiar scent.
FireClan...?
Dawnflight tore her gaze back from the stars, letting them soften when they reached her friend. They sparkled with immeasurable gratitude.
"Thank you." She smiled, as warm as she could, sensing her friend's unease. "Don't worry. Things are calm, for now. We'll leave soon, and be back soon." She frowned, bit her lip, but continued, "But I don't think we should wait until the next half-moon." No, something this important shouldn't be left in the dark for that long. There was no telling what the consequences could be.

A thread of unease found its way into Lakeripple's mind. She looked at Dawnflight out of the corner of her eye and breathed out slowly, the breath billowing out in front of her face. It was cold, so cold. But all of a sudden she felt frozen inside.
"When?"
It was a simple question, but pointed deliberately and angrily at Dawnflight. There was no fleck of anger in her voice, but full of unease. She was scared. And with what Dawnflight had said, she was suddenly worried. Not wait for the half-moon? But it was three days away! What could be so pressing that they would need to go before?
And by before, did the medicine cat mean tonight? Or tomorrow?
She wasn't prepared! She needed to prepare, eat enough so that she would not get sick from hunger when she entered the fasting before the dream! How could they not wait? HOW COULD THEY NOT? Lakeripple didn't usually admit it, but she was afraid. Yes, she would say it freely. She was afraid.

Dawnflight paused, closing her eyes in thought. To be completely honest, the Medicine Cat wanted dearly to go tonight. The idea of letting something so important go for even a day sent a thrill of panic through her soul, and made her whiskers tremble with anxiety. If it were just her, she'd be gone in a heartbeat, but...
She couldn't do that to Lakeripple. They needed time to prepare, to eat and grow stronger before having to go without food entirely. The half-moon was in three days...
"Two days. We'll leave the day after tomorrow, to give us time to prepare." The Medicine Cat could clearly see the nervousness in her friend's eyes, and gently flicked her shoulder with her tail, trying her best to appear reassuring, when in fact she was just as worried as the deputy was, but, perhaps for different reasons.
Two days. That was as long as she was willing to wait.

OOC: Sorry it has been so long, I had to think about what my kitteh is gonna say... And I was busy... being bored.
A deep sigh filled Lakeripple's mind, full of pure relief. She could pull herself together in two days. She would have too, if it was of this much importance to Dawnflight. Her friend was never wrong about these things... and now that each knew the other's secret, they had to trust each other even more.
"Right, two days. Froststar's busy again, so it will be up to me to make sure that all the necessary preparations are made... Eagletalon is charge of patrols, Brooksplash in charge of hunting... Hopefully Cherrypaw will come back from whatever hole she's hiding in and do her duty..." The deputy looked at Dawnflight, eyes clear and focused. "And we will be going to the Moonstone." Her heart clenched. She had only ever spoken to StarClan for brief moments, and how could she be sure that it really was StarClan? It had always been her father, a tribe cat.
But... to help her Clan and her best friend. "I'll be there for you, Dawnflight."
OOC: Thread Closed! New Thread will be put up at Highstones!
