Brooksplash shook her gray fur as she stepped out of the warrior's den. Her deep blue eyes took in her surroundings quickly, nothing out of the ordinary. She tasted the air and stepped out toward the fresh-kill pile. When was the last time she had eaten? The warrior couldn't remember. At least a day. Her stomach rumbled in agreement and she winced. Hunger was a curse.
She picked up the plumpest mouse she could find and headed toward a shady spot. Her eyes searched the clearing, looking for her daughter, Pondshine. She wasn't automatically visible, but her scent was fresh, so if she had left, it couldn't have been for long. Purring, Brooksplash thought about how well Ponshine and Smokeshadow were getting along. It pleased her greatly.
Then she tried scenting for Hollypaw, her foster daughter. A sweet young cat to be sure. But once again the scent was fresh, but Brooksplash couldn't seem to see her. Oh well. Hollypaw brought memories of sweet little Dreampaw anyway, and those were painful. What had she done wrong? Why had Dreampaw left? A single tear ran down her face and she pushed away the sad thoughts. Dreampaw was gone now, gone to SkyClan. Soon she'd be fighting her little foster daughter and there was nothing to do about it.
Sighing, Brooksplash stared blankly at her mouse. Dreampaw had left, her mate had died - both of them. Of course, only the first, Shudderstorm, had given her a kit, Pondshine. And she knew for a fact that he was dead. Flameclaws... well, that was another story. She had learned her lesson. He had vanished, but she knew she could never love the once EarthClan deputy ever again. She would remain loyal to WaterClan till her death.
Summer brought memories. And those memories were pealing bells in her mind, begging her attention, hurting her pride...

Hollypaw slumped into the clearing, a little dejected. There'd been no sign of Pinepaw for several days... He'd also never shown up to the hunt he'd wanted to do. It hurt, Hollypaw had actually begun to have a hope that she'd have a mate someday, that she'd be loved like Cedarpaw and Emberpaw loved each other. She shrugged. No use thinking sad thoughts. She looked up, her lone sparrow dangling from her jaws. Hunting had been extremely poor today- it seemed as if all the creatures had decided to stay in their holes. Hollypaw let out a sigh of frustration, and dropped her meager catch in the freshkill pile. A recent scent, barely two or three minutes old, made her look up, brown eyes searching. Finally, she spotted what she sought. "Brooksplash!" Hollypaw meowed, smiling. She padded over, and noticed her foster mother's faraway, pained look. "Mom? Are you okay?" She asked, pawing the silent she cat's paw....

Brooksplash glanced up at Hollypaw with a purr. She felt something soften inside, like what always happened when one of her kits, whether born to her or not, came up and said hello. "Hollypaw," she murmured while fantasies of the young cat as a warrior flashed through her mind. "Nothing is wrong, why would you think something was wrong?" Her ears twitched guiltily. She hated lying, but she didn't want to get Hollypaw on the subject of her sister.

"It's just that you looked like you were faraway, and I could tell you were thinking about..ab-" Hollypaw let it slide. She didn't think it'd be a good idea to bring up her mother's mate, nor did she have the heart to bring up Dreampaw. It still hurt, too much for Hollypaw to speak freely about it. "Did you eat enough? I can get more prey for you if you're still hungry...though it looks like you haven't even started on your first mouse." She said. "Hey, have you seen Pinepaw by the way?" she asked, her brown eyes bright...

Sunset knew that Hollypaw had seen right through her. She could see it in her foster kit's eyes. Kneading the ground in guilt, she almost missed Hollypaw's question. "Pinepaw? No, no, haven't seen him, not in a while..." She completely ignored the part where the sweet she-cat asked her if she wanted more food. She didn't feel like eating, not at all.

(^^ Don't you mean Brooksplash? ^^)
"Oh. Well," Hollypaw meowed, trying not to let her disappointment show. "Do you want to go for a stroll with me, mom? Looks like we could both use a bit of fresh air." She added softly.
(blaaah, lame post is lame)

OOC: Yes you should
Brooksplash just shrugged. It wasn't a patrol, so a walk might be nice - as long as some water was on the way. But times were rough and she wasn't sure that it was wise to go out and about with less than three cats. Kneading the ground, angry at her own indecision, Brooksplash looked around, longing for the choice to be made for her.

Pondshine dragged her paws boredly across the wet moss. The playful she-cat was often bored when Smokeshadow was on a patrol. The tom was fun to mess with, despite their age clearly saying that they were too old for playing any more. To the Waterclan she-cat, it seemed that the dark grey tom could slowly be noticing this. Pondshine never wanted to grow up.
"Mother?" her chirp of happiness at the sight of Brooksplash instantly perked her up to her correct attitude. "Hollypaw!" Pondshine added at the sight of the younger she-cat. Bouncing up to the Waterclan apprentice and pawed her small flank with a playful silver-blue forepaw.
OOC: Blah....low muse -_-;;

(pfft, it's not a big deal pik ^^ it sure doesn't sound like you've got a low muse ^^ so no worries! =D)
Hollypaw's eyes glimmered. "Pondshine! Where've you been? Haven't seen you around lately," She purred, batting the silvery blue she cat's tail playfully. She'd really missed her adoptive sister, despite the age difference, they'd been close, and when Dreampaw had left, Pondshine had been there to help her past her grief. "Have you been with Smokeshadow?" She mrrowed, grinning...
(hope none of that was powerplaying...)
