Getting to Know You (Hollypaw)

A white and brown tom sat near the Lake of Waters and stared up at the sky. He had managed to sneak out of the camp to get some time to himself. He had asked one of the apprentices to join him later for some company. The apprentice sighed and couldn't believe that the apprentice he had asked to join him. "Hollypaw," the name sounded like music on his tongue.

(lol I'm gonna make him fight for her okay? She won't be in love with him atm, but she will later! is that alright?)

Hollypaw padded out of the camp, headed towards the Lake of Waters where Pinepaw had asked her to meet him. Perhaps he wanted to do some fishing? She didn't really know. She broke into a jog, might as well get there faster! Besides, she could use all the running she could get- she longed to get faster; her short legs, though she was growing, didn't do much to help her in the speed area.. She looked up; the sun was beginning to set, and cast a fiery glow across the sky. Hollypaw loved watching the sunset, or rise; she nearly tripped over a root and remembered where she was going. After a good five minute run, she arrived at the lake of waters. Where was Pinepaw?

OOC: No problem. Pinepaw could do with a little challenge.

BIC: Pinepaw looked around and saw Hollypaw, "Hollypaw over here!" He stood and waited for the other apprentice. He liked her, but he knew that love didn't come quickly or easily. He padded over to Hollypaw and said, "Do you want to fish with me?" Pinepaw sat near Hollypaw and waited for the she-cat to accept his request for fishing. If he started to melt her heart then he might be good friends with her and maybe later, mates. The brown and white apprentice smiled at the she-cat as he sat there. He shifted for a moment to give some Hollypaw some room.

"Sure!" She said, blinking in surprise. Pinepaw just wanted to hang out with her. There were no other cats around...She waded into the water. It was always fun to make new friends, and since Pinepaw was a new apprentice, she didn't know him that well. She'd welcome this chance- it looked like Pinepaw had the same idea. "The water's pretty cold." She called out to him, the water covering her paws. She looked over at him. "Mmm... maybe we can catch some salmon if we're lucky!" She purred..

Pinepaw nodded and waded in after Hollypaw and smiled at the sound of salmon, "They're pretty tasty. Rubyheart gave me some salmon when I was starting to eat meat. My sister, Juniperpaw, isn't so lenient towards salmon." Pinepaw saw a rosy colored fish and paused. He waited and then a paw shot forward, "Mousedung! I nearly had it!" The salmon that Pinepaw had clawed was shooting away with a few scales missing and some blood oozing from the wound. Pinepaw turned to Hollypaw, "I guess I'm still too new for this. A little more practice should do don't you think? Would you like to help me practice my fishing skills?" Pinepaw was trying to be friendly and it never hurt a cat to refresh the memory of a new apprentice on hunting skills especially in fishing.

"Sure!" Hollypaw agreed. "Anything to help out a fellow apprentice." She said, smiling. "You almost had it, you just forgot to swipe your paw up, to hook it. Fish are very slippery, though I'm sure that's obvious!" she said with a laugh. She did the move in slow motion. "You go like this; swipe out to get the fish, and then," she flicked her paw so that the pad and claws were facing up towards the sky, "you flip it. This gets your claws firmly in the fish so it can't escape as easily. C'mon, let's try it again. Oh, and what did you mean, that your sister isn't as lenient towards salmon?" She asked, her head tilting to the side. Her fur shone in the sunlight as she peered around, looking for another fish..

"She doesn't like to eat salmon. She'll eat anything else, but not salmon... her stupid joke is that their too fishy." Pinepaw scowled and knew that it was a joke on her part. Pinepaw looked down and saw another salmon swim by. The white and brown apprentice did exactly what Hollypaw had said and caught the fish, "Do you want to share? Or do we take this back to the Clan?" Pinepaw wanted to spend more time with Hollypaw, but he didn't want to make him mistrust him.

"That's wierd!" Hollypaw mrrowed, chuckling. "A waterclan cat, not liking fish? Well, we all have our quirks, don't we?" She grinned at Pinepaw's catch. "That was great! caught like a real pro. Are you sure you needed my help in the first place?" she purred, giving him a teasing look. "Hmm... why don't we bury it and keep fishing? I haven't fished for awhile, it's a nice change from catching birds and voles all the time!"

"Oh she likes fish just not salmon." Pinepaw purred at Hollypaw. Pinepaw buried the fish and then returned to fishing. When he heard Hollypaw's compliment and felt his pelt burn. "Thank you Hollypaw. One day soon both of us will be warriors and we will have apprentices of our own." Pinepaw blinked at Hollypaw his eyes glittering with kindness and friendship. Hollypaw was gentle and he would do anything to keep her trust. Then Pinepaw realized something... he was falling for Hollypaw in everyway. For now Pinepaw would take things slow and be a friend to Hollypaw. He liked her name and knew that her name suited her. Then again all names suited each cat for whatever they were named for.

The black she cat nodded. "Yes. Won't that be strange? After all this time as an apprentice, we'll have finally become warriors?" She laughed to herself quietly. "Though Cedarpaw is wondering when he'll be come a warrior. He's been an apprentice for quite awhile now, but I keep telling him it's only going to help him, right?" she meowed, looking into Pinepaw's eyes. She'd never noticed how...how amazing they were. So handsome, and kind.... she shocked herself. When did she start thinking about things like that? She shook her head and spoke again. Pinepaw made her feel at ease, like she could tell him anything, kind of like Cedarpaw, but he'd been her friend since birth, so that couldn't count. She'd only, pretty much, just met Pinepaw, and she felt that same connection.. "Oh wow, it got dark really fast," she remarked. "Haha, shall we try fishing in the dark? Though we'll probably have to go back soon, or we'll get a tongue lashing from the warriors."

Pinepaw purred and nodded. He caught two more salmon and turned to Hollypaw. He sensed that she was melting towards him. The tom padded out of the water and began grooming his pelt. Pinepaw smoothed his white and brown pelt out and sat down at the edge of the lake. The Lake of Waters, it had a nice name to it. Blinking his golden amber eyes he stared into the gathering darkness. It was nice to meet another apprentice who was smart and gentle. Pinepaw was glad to get to know Hollypaw.

Hollypaw purred. "You're a salmon catching master, now." She teased, her eyes shining. "So Pinepaw, who's your mentor? Have you been assigned one yet?" She asked, padding over to sit next to him.

Pinepaw hesitated and then said, "Not yet. Officially I am still a kit, but I am the age of apprenticehood. Rubyheart taught me some fishing skills a few sunrises ago. Nightfall came with us to oversee that we would be safe." Pinepaw hoped that this bit of news didn't offend Hollypaw. He stared at the blackish she-cat and noticed that her pelt looked somewhat blue in the rising moonlight. He sighed. If this news had held back their friendship then he would wait until he was a full apprentice before approaching Hollypaw again. "Come on. Let's get these fish back to the camp before a warrior notices we're missing. No doubt they'll send search parties to find me, one of their kits." Pinepaw turned and picked up some of his catch, but could only carry one because he was still small and just about to begin his apprenticeship. Pinepaw's tail dragged over the ground as he padded back towards the camp. He would be upset if Hollypaw was upset.

OOC: I'm not mad at you... Pinepaw is just sad that Hollypaw might reject him now that she knows that he isn't technically an apprentice. LOL!

"Oh, I'm sorry Pinepaw... Don't worry, they'll get you a mentor soon! Things are pretty tight around here due to the alliances and all the tension." She gave him an encouraging look. "Rubyheart's your mom, right? And here, I'll help." Hollypaw picked up several fish, clamping them tightly between her jaws. She regretted that this made them unable to talk, but an idea hit her and she quickly put down the fish. "Pinepaw, since you don't have a mentor yet, would you like to train with me and a few other apprentices tomorrow? We just keep each other in shape and sharpen our skills- you could learn some stuff while waiting for a mentor! That way, you can surprise them with your knowledge." she said warmly. She wasn't upset by his news at all- how was it his fault? Froststar was really busy, everycat was...He'd get a mentor as soon as Froststar was able...
