Dawnflight prowled about the banks of the lake, blue eyes scanning for any signs of prey. Sure, she'd come herb-hunting originally, but she'd found quite the clump of watermint and a good bit of horsetail, so she'd figured a bit of prey-hunting couldn't hurt...

"Hi Dawnflight!" Hollypaw meowed as she spotted the medicine cat. "It's a wonderful morning today, isn't it?" She meowed, purring as the sunlight caressed her midnight black pelt..

Dawnflight started, jerking her head up at the sound of the apprentice's voice. The she-cat blinked, then smiled wryly.
"Yes, it is." She purred, "I'd been hoping to do a little hunting..."

Dawnflight smiled, lifting her head high of the grass as she nodded. "I don't mind at all!"
Casting her blue eyes across the territory, she dipped her muzzle again, frowning. "Yes, it has." Truthfully, she wasn't sure whether it was a bad thing or not.

"Thanks Dawnflight!" Hollypaw purred, a smile on her face. A somber look replaced the smile at Dawnflight's words. "Do you think it's a bad thing? like the silence before a storm?" She asked, looking worried..

"Unfortunately, yes." Dawnflight replied, somewhat reluctant of worrying the she-cat. However, she had no intention of lying to her. "I fear that a... a storm is fast approaching." And StarClan only knows where the lightning will strike... The white Medicine Cat looked troubled for a moment, as if her pretty blue eyes were darkened by the aformentioned storm clouds. Then she shook her head, forcing a smile. "But, what is the use of worrying now? What will come will come, and we can only prepare, and trust in our Clan."

Hollypaw nodded. "Yeah...I-I just worry about what will happen, though I shouldn't. We can make it through this, it's just that I wonder what the price of it all will be..." The she cat ran her tongue over her shoulder fur self conciously. "Well, here I am worrying, when we should be enjoying the hunt." Hollypaw smiled wryly.

Dawnflight smiled and nodded sadly in agreement, then pricked her ears. A brighter expression appeared on her white muzzle, and she arched her back in a stretch, digging her claws into the damp ground. "What kind of prey should we keep an eye out for? Maybe some water voles or mice around the bank..."

"Yup!" Hollypaw nodded. "They like the moist places, but if you wanted sparrows or birds, we should head into the foresty area. oooh!" Hollypaw lowered herself into a crouch as a small water vole peeked out of it's den and began to cautiously scamper out. It lost all signs of caution however, when it spotted a pile of seeds- food. Hollypaw held her breath and waited for the right moment..

Dawnflight's eyes widened, pupils mere slits as they turned on the vole. The white cat froze, knowing that she stood out like a solitary patch of snow. Ears flattening slightly, Dawnflight too dropped into a crouch, but waited--this was Hollypaw's kill.

Hollypaw took a cautious step forward, and when the vole didn't notice, she grew bolder. She glided forward, and pounced- landing on the vole and quickly dispatching it with a bite to the neck. She purred and looked up at Dawnflight. "Ooops, was that yours?" she meowed guiltily..

"No, it's yours. Nicely done, by the way." She meowed quietly, then tilted her head. "Do you want to keep hunting around here, then, or move on? It doesn't matter to me."

Hollypaw flashed a relieved glance at Dawnflight, before quickly burying the vole.
"Hmmm, want to move on?" She stopped and sniffed the air, brown eyes narrowing in concentration. "It smells like not much else is here, but you don;t need me telling you that.." The apprentice said with a wry grin. "I must sound like I'm lecturing you, when I'm the apprentice and you're the medicine cat..."

"Do you like being a medicine cat?" Hollypaw inquired, her whiskers twitching. She padded alongside the medicine cat. "It must be really fun to know what all those herbs do, and the satisfaction you get from helping a cat get better, instead of inflicting pain must be great." She meowed..

"I do." Dawnflight smiled, glancing at the apprentice padding beside her. "And, it is. I'm glad I can help my Clan the way I do, doing what I love." Shimmers from the lake danced in her eyes, making their blue depths sparkle and adding to the sly look that appeared there. "But my job is just one. I never forget about the cats who keep our Clans whole." She winked at Hollypaw. "I was apprenticed to a warrior before I found my calling as a Medicine Cat, after all."

"What? I didn't know you'd been apprenticed to a warrior before you became a medicine cat! What ever made you change your mind about being a warrior? You must have wanted to be one when you were a kit, but was there something that just changed things for you? like a particular moment?" The black she cat asked, intrigued. All thoughts of prey was forgotten as Hollypaw listened to her clanmate, learning new things she'd never known before..

Laughing softly, Dawnflight paused on a relatively dry patch of bank and smiled out across the water. "You're right. I did want to be a warrior like most kits, but just like most kits, I realized it wasn't as easy as it sounds."
The Medicine Cat's paws, stained muddy from the ground, flexed against the cool earth. "I was one of the clumsier apprentices, and my pelt stood out like a beacon when I tried to hunt. It was really my mentor who helped put me on the right track." She winced, and smiled at Hollypaw wryly, "She was attacked by a fox and badly injured. I was terrified that she'd die, but the Medicine Cat saved her. I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen."
OOC: Jeez Dawnflight, get all involved about it. XD

"I never knew that about you, and I've known you since I was born. Wow..whats to say we don't have the same problem with the rest of our clanmates?"
