Froststar paced anxiously from one side of her lichen-lined den to the other. Her long legs made sweeping steps, as if to use less energy for the leader to think. A gray-ringed tail twitched awkwardly with jerky movements. All together, the stressed out leader was waiting for something, anything! If not news, maybe another cat to speak to! No. It is unethical for the leader to meow her worries to a simple warrior. I need some sort of action. She thought, hesitating in her impatient dance, only to resume with a shake of the head.

Crowpaw burst into Froststar's den, breathlessly. "Froststar!!!!" He meowed excitedly, eyes wide. "Can we train today? You were pretty busy the last couple of days..." He suddenly noticed her anxiety. "What's the matter?" he tilted his head to the side, wondering what Froststar could be so upset about.... He waited for her response...

Lakeripple padded towards her leader's den. Poking her head in, she instantly noticed that Froststar was upset with something. Froststar, dawn patrol's back, no news. Everything seems quiet. She frowned. Seems was almost like one of those "key word" things. Everything is quiet, she clarified, staring at her son.

"Hi mom!" The fluffy tom meowed. "That's good," he said carefully. "Does this mean Fireclan might have left us alone for once?" he added, glancing back and forth between Froststar and Lakeripple...

Froststar stopped pacing and sat, curling her tail carefully around her paws. "No, we may have declared an alliance to FireClan, but their shadow still hovers over us, little Crowpaw. Have you seen any warriors from the other Clans, Lakeripple?"

Lakeripple shook her head. No, but I have heard news. Dawnstreak of SkyClan is now Dawnstar and their alliegence with EarthClan is final. She winced, knowing who else was allied with EarthClan. Her brother and his mate, as well as their band. And I don't know if this needs to bother us, but Foxcloud was scented in EarthClan territory. The patrols say that her scent was found crossing our border and going deeper into Treestar's lands. They think she may have been through our territory.

Crowpaw squeaked. "Wait, wasn't Rosefeather Skyclan's deputy? And Foxcloud in Earthclan? I hope they gave her what for!" The apprentice meowed indignantly. "I'm sick of being allied to Fireclan! Huh. Why can't we just break the alliance? We're strong!" He challenged, a glint in his eyes..

Froststar's whiskers twitched in amusement. "Rosefeather seems to have grown. Perhaps in more ways than I estimated. And we stay allied with FireClan for complex reasons Crowpaw," Froststar sighed.

"Pah," The apprentice spat, looking cross. "Complex reasons my paw!" He muttered, though knowing Froststar was right. He sighed. "Can we train today Froststar?" He meowed. "Or should I go hunting with Cedarpaw and Mistpaw?"

Lakeripple's paws itched to cuff her son. Hadn't she taught him better manners than that? "Crowpaw, she whispered. Where did you ever learn that being so rude gets you far in life? Certainly not from me... Who have you been hanging out with?

Crowpaw had the sense to look embarrased. "Sorry mom... I didn't think I was being that ruuude." He complained, but then shut up at his mother's look. He looked at his paws. "Sorry Froststar..." he meowed, looking contrite..

"Do not worry little one. I find your attitude very refreshing. As well to you Lakeripple. Crowpaw's straight forward habits will help him in the future, this I can already see. A little training couldn't hurt, we might even gain some information on the status of our neighboring Clans." Froststar had closed her eyes, peaceful, then snapped awake again, her tail waving about, fluid, simple, reflecting her mind.

Crowpaw looked up, surprise written on his face. He'd thought he'd get punished for speaking so forwardly. "Really?" he meowed, a grin spreading across his face. He couldn't wait to begin; going anywhere with his mentor was always an adventure. He looked excited, and pleased at Froststar's compliment.

Lakeripple rolled her eyes at her son. Even Cedarpaw wasn't this bad! Speaking of Cedarpaw... Froststar, I think that Cedarpaw should be made a warrior soon. He has been an apprentice for longer than is usual... She felt guilty not also suggesting Birchpaw get his name, but where was that tom? Where was Cherrypaw?

"I am sorry to delay his and other's warrior ceremonies, but this is a time that I cannot send them out as full-fledged warriors. Once I can gain a better standing of our future, then I will preform their ceremonies. Until then, asess them, teach them everything, leave no fact untaught. That is all, you may go Lakeripple. Crowpaw and I are going to the the Wet Marshes." Froststar stood up, ignoring the twinge of stiffness. I must be getting older than I thought! The leader thought with surprise.

Crowpaw felt bad for his siblings, but Froststar was right; more training would only help Cedarpaw to become an even more formidable warrior. "The wet marshes? Okay Froststar!" He meowed happily. "Are we gonna spy on some cats again?" Crowpaw meowed, lowering himself into a stealth crouch and creeping forward. "Or chase away apprentices?" He grinned, "I'm just kidding at the last one!"

Crowpaw's ears perked up. "Okay! Are we gonna scare them again, like you did last time? Boy, they sure jumped out of their fur!" The wispy apprentice grinned at the memory. "So Froststar, why do they keep hanging out here if they're afraid of you?"

The wise leader purred, dropping her voice. "Can I trust you with a secret Crowpaw?" Froststar even lowered her head to meet Crowpaw, eye to eye.
