Crowpaw leapt up into the tree; his practicing was paying off! He could now move quieter as he leaped from branch to branch. Not completely silent, but quieter none the less. He allowed himself a smile of satisfaction. A few more days of practice and he'd be the quietest leaper besides Froststar! The thought cheered him immensely. He jumped down from the branch, aiming for a squirrel chattering on the ground. When would Froststar show up, he wondered..

Froststar laughed at Crowpaw's progress. "Well then, you think you'll be the best? Or have my insults granted you modesty?" Her silvery pelt rippled with her soft purr. Jumping easily until she was about the same height on a nearby tree, she called to Crowpaw, "I'll watch you hunt from here."

Crowpaw's head swivelled around. Did Froststar delight in coming out of nowhere? How'd he guess his thoughts anyway? He shook his head, grinning. He should be used to it by now. "Never!" He meowed, eyes shining. "They'll only make me even more convinced that I'm doing well!" He purred. "Okay lazy Froststar!" He teased, quietly for he was stalking another squirrel after catching the last one..

Froststar chuckled to herself, allowing Crowpaw the focusing silence to aid him. She was simply bantering with him, knowing that he was actually quite humble. Although, she did have to race around the forest searching for him when he went out to practice by himself. Seeing a flaw, she called out. "Stop your tail! ith it flicking about like that, you'll never learn to release yourself to your instincts!"

Immediately Crowpaw's tail stopped waving, and his entire body became still as he crept upon another unsuspecting mouse. Gotcha! He thought, pouncing on it. He quickly buried it, and moved on, amber eyes searching for the next prey he could catch. He was glad Froststar was there to tell him what he was doing wrong- he didn't want to learn it thr wrong way and then get stuck doing it that way..

Froststar grinned. "Keep at it, I'm going to go find a good spot to practice something." She backflipped down, landing easily. She looked from side to side, checking her surroundings. Content with her findings, she headed in the opposite direction she had came. Using her nose to find a sandy area, she hopped around, testing the softness. Again, she grinned, purring loudly to herself.

Crowpaw flicked his tail to show he'd heard before becoming still again as his prey suddenly glanced around. But, not "seeing" anything moving, it went back to scrabbling around for food. Crowpaw struck- killing it with a swift bite. Vole dangling from his mouth, Crowpaw wondered what Froststar wanted to practice... He shrugged. He guessed he would have to waaaait. well he wasn't going to just sit around, there was more hunting to be done. He had a nice pile of freshkill already! no cat would go hungry today...

Crowpaw's ears flicked up at the sound of his name being called. Without hesitation, he darted away, following Froststar's voice. It sounded urgent.. What could be the matter? "Froststar?" He meowed, coming to a stop a few feet away from his mentor...

"You wanted to learn to fight, so here we are!" Her tail flickered about, motioning to the sandy area around them. "I'll teach you every move I can do myself, but it's your responsibility to schedule practices with other apprentices."

"Sheesh!" Crowpaw meowed, a little crossly. "You scared me to death, I thought something bad happened." His scowl cleared up. "But then again, you're FROSTSTAR, you easily defeat trouble." He meowed grinning. "Okay, I'm sure I can find a training session!" He meowed. "What's the first lesson?? I'm sooo ready to learn!"

"Well then. Since you've been practicing balance in the trees, why don't we try a basic technique." In a flash, she sweeped her back foot under his 4, letting him fall with an uff.

Crowpaw fell onto his stomach, with a loud uff. He didn't bother with complaining, he just got to his paws, shaking the dust out of his fur, and darting sideways, out of range of Froststar's paws. His eyes swept across her frame as he sought the best strategy for attacking her. She was larger than him, definitely stronger. Perhaps faster too, but... well it was worth a try. Crowpaw dashed towards Froststar, dodging at the last second, but twisting his paw out so that it aimed to hit Froststar even while his momentum carried him away from her, so that she couldn't land a blow on him..
