Lakeripple sat at the base of the boulder, head resting on crossed paws. Her blue-green eyes shimmered slightly in the weak light cast by the moon. She frowned. Change hurt. All her kits were apprentices... and during the Clan's worst hour! She winced inwardly, imagining Crowpaw and Mistpaw facing a badger or worse... tears burned in her eyes. They were much to young for that! Yet they were six moons... the moons pass so quickly...

OOC: You don't mind Dawnflight dropping in, do you?
IC: Dawnflight sat at the edge of her den, scanning over her stores of herbs. The Medicine Cat should have been preparing for sleep, but slumber was hard to come by these days, and she often found herself awake until the wee hours of the night...
Heaving a sigh, the white she-cat turned to finally flop on her side, but paused when she caught sight of a cat beyond the edge of her den. The warrior was silhouetted faintly by the glow of the moon, and Dawnflight could just barely detect the familiar shade of its fur... Lakeripple? What was she doing up?
Pausing for but a moment, the white she-cat padded softly from her den, coming to a stop a few paces from the prone cat. "...Lakeripple?" Her gentle voice was hardly a whisper, for fear of waking those cats who were able to sleep. "What are you doing up out here?"

Lakeripple glanced up. "What? Am I not allowed to have troubled sleeping?" She tucked her tail around herself and glanced at the den. From here she could make out Eagletalon's snores.

Ears flicking back, Dawnflight looked about the darkened camp and sighed quietly. "You too?" Curling her own fluffy tail about her haunches to ward off the chill, the Medicine Cat let her gaze wander back to Lakeripple and said, a bit louder, "I suppose so..."

Lakeripple laughed quietly. Then her face became serious. "There's a war coming, isn't there Dawnflight? And it is not going to be pretty." She stole a stiff glance at her belly. "My kits," she mewed in a strained voice.
OOC: Ah yes, the public announcement... Spottedshadow and I are planning another litter!

Dawnflight chuckled quietly, but her eyes were grave. "So it appears." Her pelt seemed to catch the glow of the moon as she rose to her paws again and anxiously began to knead the ground. "With the Clans joining together against the others, if this tension keeps building, bloodshed may well be the only outcome..." The WaterClan Medicine Cat sighed, gazing up at th sky. If only StarClan would show her a sign, something to assure her that the Clans would make it out of these troubled times in one piece...
Dawnflight's gaze fell back to earth at Lakeripple's tone, and she caught the meaning in the she-cat's words at once. She wasn't just talking about Crowpaw and Mistpaw when she mentioned kits.
Her white tipped tail flicked the Deputy's shoulder gently. "Oh, Lakeripple..."

Lakeripple's voice was strained. "It wasn't planned, not supposed to be so soon after Crowpaw and Mistpaw were made apprentices. And I'm not far along, I can fight if need be... but why now? StarClan must have had a reason, I think." She counted off her live kits in her head. Cedarpaw, Birchpaw, Cherrypaw, Crowpaw, Mistpaw... The two oldest boys were in the worst danger, Crowpaw and Mistpaw couldn't fight yet! But this new litter... what was she to do?
OOC: MWA HA HA HA HA!!! Poor Lakeripple...

Eagletalon padded up to the two she-cats. He licked Lakeripple's ear. "Feeling better?" he asked.

After watching the two for a moment, Dawnflight spoke again. "There must be a reason, then." The Medicine Cat's voice was quiet, but her eyes sparkled fiercely. "Nothing can be changed now, but you must keep faith."
The white she-cat paused, her expression melting into a smile that she directed at the pair, "Your other kits will survive, war or not." Dawnflight assured gently, "They're all fine apprentices with capable mentors, and their parents are very strong."
OOC: Speaking of kits, I'm a bit lost as to what I'm doing with Jet for the kidnapping plot. ^^'

Lakeripple glanced up. "I know. I just hope that Crowpaw and Mistpaw don't fight, they've only been apprentices for half a moon!" She hesitated. "And Cedarpaw and Birchpaw should be old enough to get their names. Cherrypaw too, if I ever see her again."
OOC: UGH! LEOPARDSHADOW OWNS CHERRYPAW!!! I don't want to put her up for adoption again! Poor Cherrypaw...

"I'm sure Cherrypaw is alright," Eagletalon meowed. "She's probably following some kind of sign. Perhaps Froststar will make Cedarpaw and Birchpaw warriors. That will make us so proud!"

"Wonderful!" Eagletalon meowed. He was so happy he'd found Lakeripple. He finally had the family that he wanted. "If we have anymore kits, we'll be able to start our own clan," he meowed jokingly.

"I hope so." Dawnflight replied to Eagletalon, referring to Cherrypaw. The Medicine Cat was very worried about her apprentice; she hadn't seen her in a very long time. Then, she cleared her voice a bit and glanced back up, a grin cracking her somber expression at the tom's joke. Chuckling to herself, she nodded to Lakeripple, "I'm sure Cedarpaw and Birchpaw will become warriors soon. It's just been so hectic lately; I guess that's what's causing the delay."
