Sunstorm smiled, but inside, his heart was shattering into a million tiny pieces. This pain would never heal he thought, but he put on a grin. He didn't want to tear her and Coalheart apart, and it was clear she loved Coalheart so much. "I will, Fernfur, I promise. I'll always come to you for advice! Well, I'd best be going- I'm going on patrol." He meowed. "I hope you two have a long, happy life together." He smiled again, and then padded out of the den.....

Fernfur looked after Sunstorm, and she felt a tiny pang of regret. It was obvious that Sunstorm wasn't telling the whole truth...but Fernfur couldn't do anything about it. Evidently, Sunstorm still felt for Fernfur, but he was willing to give her up to make her happy, and she loved him just for that. Perhaps not as a mate...but as a true friend. Whether or not he had found someone else, she didn't know, but for his sake, she hoped so. She suddenly dashed after Sunstorm.
"Sunstorm! Wait! I need to tell you something!" she yowled. Please, let him have heard me, please...

Sunstorm stopped in his tracks as Fernfur's voice called out to him. What could she want to say? He wondered. He craned his neck, and saw her pelting towards him...

Fernfur skidded to a stop in front of Sunstorm, almost crashing into him. "Sunstorm...I love you. But not as a mate. I love you as the best of friends, even as a brother. And I want you to know that even though I'm Coalheart's, I'll always be here for you to talk to. I'll always be your friend, even though I'm Coalheart's mate. You and Coalheart are my first real friends, cats who I can talk to and be myself with. I'll always be opened up to you and there for you." she burst out. She breathed out slowly when she was done and locked her gaze with Sunstorm's. Her eyes were fierce, determined, and glowing with feeling.

Sunstorm smiled, and some of the hurt eased. "Thanks Fernfur. It means alot to hear you say that." He meowed. "Thank you... for being my friend. I always wanted a sister," he meowed, letting a trace of his old humor back into his voice.

"Heh." she smiled. "I'm going to go back to the den...I'm tired. I'll see you later." She touched her muzzle to his ear affectionately. "Have a good time." She walked back to the den, feeling light and happier than she had been in a long while. She curled up next to Coalheart again.

Sunstorm meowed a reply and then padded out of the camp, where he let out a huge sigh. His feelings were mixed; he was glad to see Fernfur happy, but sad that she didn't love him in the way he wished she did. He was glad that she still wished to be his friend, dispite the dilemma he put her in....
(lol, hmm.... I might have to make a mate for him, but I'll wait a little longer to see if anyone replies)

Hours passed. Fernfur slowly began to wake up. It was the middle of the night when she blinked open her misty blue eyes to a wonderful welcoming Coalheart-scent. She stretched and grinned. He smelled really nice..."Psst! Hey, Coalheart!"" she hissed. "Do you want to hunt tomorrow?"
